Re: Fire service news and announcements .....Great Orme

NORTH Wales Fire and Rescue were called to deal with two discarded barbecues in the space of six hours on the Great Orme in Llandudno. ref Pioneer

On Tuesday May 27, crews from the town had to deal with two separate incidents at just after 2pm and just after 8pm.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "We were first called at 2.04pm to an unattended barbecue which was 'well alight' on the Great Orme.

"Six hours later, at 8.15pm, we had to return to the area to deal with a carelessly discarded barbecue which took until 9.30pm to fully extinguish."

North Wales Fire and Rescue say they are urging residents not to put 'unnecessary strain' on their services during the coronavirus pandemic.

As such, they are asking residents not to light garden fires and bonfires; in order to protect those who may have respiratory problems.

A spokesperson added: "Smoke from garden waste fires produces carbon monoxide and pollutants that can irritate airways, the skin and eyes. This can cause coughing, wheezing and chest pain, particularly if it is damp and smouldering, affecting people with asthma and other respiratory diseases. These people are also at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19.

"Burning plastic, rubber or painted materials not only creates an unpleasant smell but also produces a range of poisonous compounds.

"Avoiding lighting fires will also help our emergency services at this time as fires can easily spread and cause damage and injury."

A direct result of CCBC policy of contracting out Garden Waist collection and making you pay for the privilege. I predict this is the first of many such incidents

An urgent warning has been issued following a devastating house fire in North Wales.                     ref DP

The alert comes as in response to a fire at a property yesterday evening (Friday, August 4).

The fire is believed to have been caused by a plug-in pest control device installed inside the home.

However, during investigations, emergency services found that the item was not up to current UK safety standards.
North Wales Fire and Rescue explained that the plug-in did not carry the required 'CE' or 'Kite' markings.

These two certifications show that electrical items with health, safety and environmental protection standards.
The CE mark is displayed on authorised items sold within the European Economic Area (EEA).
And the Kite mark is visible on products approved by the British Standards Institution in the UK.

"When purchasing such items, please ensure they have correct safety standard markings."

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service is continuing to offer safe and well checks during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, including a free smoke alarm and installation service.

The check takes about 20 minutes and is carried out by fully trained fire and rescue service staff, who supply and install lifesaving, free home smoke detectors or ensure that your existing alarms are in working order; provide advice on how to make your home safe from fire; help you prepare an escape plan to assist you and your family in safely making your way out of the property in the event of fire; provide specialised equipment for deaf and hard of hearing people; and assess whether you are at high risk and may benefit from specialist equipment to help keep you safe.

The fire service has also modified its service and speaks with householders over the telephone to discuss any health or self-isolation arrangements and minimise the amount of time spent on home visits.

In between tackling fires, rescuing motorists and retrieving cats from trees, a firefighting team has found a bit of time to have some festive fun.           (And spare a thought for those on duty over Xmas   $salute$  )

Watch North Wales firefighters create amazing Santa giant from hoses, jackets and extinguishers

Determined to show some true Christmas spirit amid the Covid gloom, officers built a giant Santa outside their station.

They also produced a fabulous time-lapse video of the team putting it together.

Their fire engine-sized Father Christmas was designed using nothing but service clothes and firefighting equipment.

Be aware.......

The fire service was unable to pass the pictured car in the photograph. This is a narrow street anyway, but if the fire service cannot access the street then lives are at risk.

If you look closely you can see the flames just starting above the house.             ref in your area

I'm afraid that the CCBC is still passing planning applications for background cul de sac's when it is quite obvious that fire engines cannot get to the houses even when no cars are  parked in the access road
Let's hope that this type of thing doesn't end in tragedy for anyone

Firefighter issues stark warning in front of smouldering gorse land caused by garden waste fire
North Wales Fire Service has issued an urgent reminder about the damage that can happen

Residents are being asked to avoid burning garden waste or rubbish. This is because fires can spread quickly and they can be extremely unpredictable.

Group manager for North Wales Fire and Rescue put out the following warning: "We're at an incident in Dolgellau, where a very small garden waste fire got immediately out of control and has affected approximately 10-15,000 square metres or gorse, bracken, softwood and some smaller hardwood in the vicinity.

You won't need it all the time..........only on beautiful sunny days, when you are sitting in the the garden, and all your windows are open, airing the house.   ;)
