rhos on sea pumping station
« on: September 10, 2018, 07:12:56 pm »
hi bit of a mad one but the old pumping station in rhos is doing nothing at the moment  was derelict for many years then a refurb /clean up job carried out still unused. as a kid in the 60s 70s the pump was fully manned with an 8 man crew and a pump manager. the managers house is the black &white house at the end of the stone wall up church road. there used to be an auxilliary steam engine in one of the side rooms we used to go to watch it being run up on test days my late father knew one of the pump lads joe valentine from old colwyn, always in a boiler suit and a beret. on the floor of the pump house at the entrance was a mosaic of the colwyn bay borough council oak tree which was repeated at various borough locations. as an aside our 4 minute warning air attack siren in the event of a nuclear attack was mounted on top of the pump house it was tested occasionally very loud very scary sound

Pioneer article from July.
Restaurant PLANS to convert the former pump house at Rhos-on-Sea into a Chinese restaurant are to go before Conwy planners again.    30 July.
This follows refusal of planning permission last year for the listed building off Cysgod Y Bryn, but the reason for refusal have been dealt with in the new application.planned for Rhos-on-Sea pump house.
