Alan Thompson named as man found at Penrhyn Bay
16:41, 20 April 2015

A man whose body was found on a Conwy beach had seemed “out of it” a short while earlier, it was revealed at the opening of an inquest today.

At a brief hearing in Ruthin, John Gittins, coroner for North Wales East and Central, said that, on the evening of April 11, Alan Thompson was approached by Anthony and Jacquie Bestall as they walked their dog in Penrhyn Bay.

They said he seemed “out of it” and told them he wanted to go to Llandudno, but a little later another couple spotted his body on the beach.

The coroner said Mr Thompson, 59, of Woodland Road East, Colwyn Bay, was under the care of the mental health team from Rhoslan surgery and had walked into the sea in July 2014.

Pathologist Dr Andrew Dalton, who carried out a post-mortem examination, deferred a decision on the cause of death pending the results of further tests.

The inquest was adjourned to a full hearing in Llandudno in September.

Major congestion in the centre of Conwy at present - beware!

A North Wales Police spokesman said: "We were called out to a road traffic collision involving a BMW on Castle Square, Conwy.

"The fire service are also in attendance."

The A547 Castle Square is partially blocked and heavy traffic due to the accident near the B5106 Llanrwst Road (Conwy Castle roundabout).
