British Transport Police are appealing for help in identifying a woman they want to speak to after a member of rail staff was attacked on a train.

Officers want to speak to the woman pictured, who was on the Chester to Holyhead service at the time of the incident, at 9.45pm, on Saturday, June 22.

PC Sean Braithwaite, leading the investigation, said: “Between Llanfairfechan and Conwy, the conductor on the train spoke to a large group of people making lots of noise, to ask them to be quiet.

“When the train arrived at Conwy, a woman from the group approached the conductor and started arguing with her, grabbing her face as she did so.

“The woman then left the train at Conwy, having boarded at Llanfairfechan.”

Officers are eager to identify the woman pictured as it is believed she could hold important information central to the investigation.

PC Braithwaite added: “This was a nasty and unnecessary experience for a member of staff just trying to do their job.

“We do not tolerate abuse on rail staff or customers and will always do everything in our power to identify and prosecute anyone who carries out this type of unacceptable behaviour.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016 quoting reference B4/WWA of 05/09/2013. Alternatively, information can be passed to the independent charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.

I have gone through the forum sections and think this may be the correct place to post this; forgive me if it's not, perhaps a moderator will re-post it.

I have several fruit trees, heavily laden with fruit, both  eating and cooking apples. There are also pears, but they are not quite ready yet. There is far to much fruit for me to use and I'm trying to find an organisation/charitable cause/community group to donate them to. They are not great high tress, but because of a shoulder operation, I cannot reach up to pick the fruit. I telephoned Crest several times to offer it for their food boxes. They did not reply, so I called  into their offices to be told they were not interested and quoted 'health and safety'......

If anyone can recommend or knows of a suitable cause, please contact me at hillwalker@yahoo.co.uk

It seems to be a shame and waste to allow the fruit to fall and rot.

Many thanks. (The location is Deganwy.)

Police are going to try and recover money from a criminal gang who conned millions of pounds out of banks and building societies in Wales’s biggest ever fraud case

Specialist police financial investigators are on the case after four people, including an ex-police officer, were locked up for a total 21 years for their crime – the scale of which was described as “breathtaking” by the judge who locked them up.

A court hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act  will happen late next year, to recover the funds from ringleader Antony Lowry-Hughes, a former police officer from Kinmel Bay, his business partner Sheila Whalley, 67, and their co-conspirators. Lowry-Hughes, 65, of Parc Tudor, was jailed for seven years on Friday and Walley, 65, of Tai Duon Bach, Llanfair TH, got six years. Both were banned from being company directors. Their accomplices, solicitor Nicholas Jones, 54, from Mold and surveyor Frank Darlington, 62, from Lancashire got four years each. Hughes’ wife Susan Lowri-Hughes, 60, also of Parc Tudor, was said to be on the periphery and under the influence of her husband - she received a 12 month prison sentence suspended for two years with 300 hours unpaid work.

All denied conspiracy to defraud but were convicted after a marathon four month trial.

Restraint orders on the finances of all defendants were put in place at an early stage and now a time-table has been set for all financial information to be provided by gang members.

Nigel Power QC – who represented Hughes told Mold Crown Court the losses were not yet known. The prosecution said they involved between £15.5m and £24m but Judge Rhys Rowlands dealt with the defendants on the basis of £6.5m for sentencing purposes only – that was the “net” difference between what was paid out and what would have been paid out had the 189 applications the court convicted them for, been genuine.

The police officer in charge of the initial investigation has praised his team.

Detective Superintendent Peter Chalinor, who has now retired, said Operation Valgus was the biggest fraud investigation ever undertaken by North Wales Police, who examined more than 850 fraudulent mortgage applications.

A total of 3.2 million documents were seized – if they and all documents they had on computers were printed out then they would fill an air-craft hangar.

The investigation had a core team of four – who spent years interrogating the evidence with members of the Regional Asset Recovery Team.

But more than 100 officers were involved when simultaneous raids were carried out and trucks had to be hired to carry away seized documents. Mr Chalinor said: “I am immensely proud of the small team that I had the good fortune to lead, in what became the longest investigation of my career.”

ACCIDENT: A WOMAN suffered serious injuries and had to be cut from a car after a road accident in Llandudno. Police, fire and ambulance services all attended the scene of the accident near the Craigside Inn in Penrhynside in Llandudno shortly after 5pm. Two vehicles carrying two people each were involved in the incident, and two casualties from the same car were taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd by ambulance. A fire service spokeswoman said a woman in her 30s had to be cut out of a car by fire crews using heavy cutting gear. An ambulance spokesman said she suffered serious injuries including a head injury and injuries to her legs. The man in his 30s who was taken to hospital was described as “walking wounded”. How many times has there been a serious crash on that section of road? Back in the early 90s, I was a passenger in a car that crashed there, demolished a lamppost and hit the wall. Wearing a seatbelt saved my life.  $good$

Current speed limit is 40mph and needs reducing to 30.  That would be a start.

Another is the people leaving the Premier Inn, probably after having a drink or two, in a happy mood and who fail to put their driver's hat on before pulling out into the road.  With a 40 limit they don't appreciate that traffic is bearing down on them at speed.   I have seen many a close shave there and put it all down to driver error. ^*^0 (*)

There'll be some activity on the Marine Drive tomorrow (Thursday 10th) as North Wales Car Club are running their Press Day for special guests to have a ride in a rally car and media to interview drivers.  The "stage" will run from Rest & Be Thankful to the North Shore Toll Gate - road will be officially closed most of the day.

There will be officials there from 0830 hours, cars arriving soon after and then the guests.  Runs will start at 1100 until 1400 hours.

After that, a well-known TV company will be filming for a well-known children's programme, their presenters driving rallyschool cars and being filmed - this will include filming from a helipcopter!!!  That will be until about 1800 hours.  Hope we all get one of their badges!!!

Access to watch will be from the bottom of the zig-zags, or walk over to come down the tank tracks - everyone will be gathering at RABT.  You will need a pass to get access by car, which will be from the West Shore end - these have been issued to our guests (I suspect some may be on here!)

The Cambrian Rally itself is on Saturday 19th October when we will be running the Marine Drive stage in the "correct" way (Wales Rally GB are running it the "wrong" way!) - more info on www.cambrianrally.co.uk later.
