I always walk past that when I go the Theatre in Rhyl. Very sad but sort of sums up Rhyl - once grand now falling apart

I believe that it is a listed building that applied for planning application to be converted into flats.  Planning application was refused and the place was boarded up and became a home for squatters.  The buiding then had a fire that gutted the place so much so that it must have been unviable to rebuild as a hotel.   So surprise, surprise the next application to convert the hotel to flats was approved.
Seems to happen a lot in this area.
It's a shame really as it was a great place to go to at one time.

The left hand part of the building is to be retained and refurbished, the right hand side is to be demolished and rebuilt in a modern design.

They said something similar before West Shore's Gogarth Abbey Hotel was demolished. (completely)

I'm not sure if I am putting this post in the correct place. But, it is to do with the press. I know local papers are having a hard time, falling sales, falling advertising revenue, but are they so skint that they cannot afford the most basic proof reader? Hacks of old would turn in their journalistic graves if they could see what I have just seen in one of our local papers. A full page with about ten individual adverts for firms competing for Mothers Day trade. Only one snag. Right across the top it states "Mothers Day. 14th March."  Last years date, of course. To make it even worse the date of the papers issue, Wednesday March 23rd, is printed alongside. Lord Beaverbrooke would  have given the lot the sack if he had seen it. Mike

Well spotted, Mike! I skimmed through the Pion...the paper in question, and never noticed.
