The devastated families of three missing fishermen have praised the incredible rescue efforts as the search for their loved ones continues.

The men, named locally as Carl McGrath, 34, from Conwy, Steve Minard, 20, known as Alan, from Penmaenmawr, and Ross Ballantine, from Llandudno, have been missing off the coast of North Wales since Wednesday.

A huge air and sea search to find the men, involving seven RNLI lifeboat teams, HM Coastguard, North Wales Police, helicopter and aeroplane cover is ongoing.

The RNLI and everyone involved in the search for the trawler have done a very thorough and professional job so it is very worrying especially in these days of mobile phones and satellite navigation for a vessel to disappear like that.  It's just devastating for the families and friends of the missing fishermen

I have been reading about other events with trawlers missing in the Irish Sea and some have had submarines trapped in their nets and the trawlers have been sunk as a result.
I hope and pray that this hasn't happened with this trawler

That's happened quite a bit in Scotland.

I thought of the possibility of being rammed by one of the Liverpool bound ships, but on checking, it would appear they use pots or traps, and don't have to go out to far ?  also looking at the boat, it appears to have radio equipment, as an alternative to poor cell reception, let's hope the family get an answer to the mystery.

The vessel was last seen at 10pm on Wednesday evening off Rhos-on-Sea and was expected back at midnight.

It is very strange as to what may have happened.

Actually, they do. While it's true the Irish Sea is shallow, subs still use it - and use it quite a bit.   It seems to have been going on quite a while.

Yes,  I'm sad to say it but submarines still use the Irish Sea,  the UK government has admitted to this incident but the Russians wouldn't and there are unexplained incidents of fishing boats going missing there.

Ian the incident you refer to was in the North Channel in navel terms it is not part of the Irish Sea it is the entry/exit to Faslane Nave Base , however this is of no comfort to the families of the Conwy fishing boat

Fishing is a perilous way to make a living and the fishermen are faced with everything nature can chuck at them.   When a tragedy like this happens it affects the whole community and sadly this is not the first tragedy for the Conwy trawlers

Apart from mother nature human activity can also create a danger

I spoke to a friend today and she advised me of an incident that happened recently on the Old Highway in Colwyn Bay.   It happened on the narrow stretch of road between the Mountain Zoo and the Seren Y Dyffryn Caravan park.    The people were walking with their Old English Sheepdog puppy with the dog was on a short rein when a van sped at them, narrowly missing the people but it unfortunately struck the dog.
The van driver did not stop although he did so about 100 yards away but then drove off.
The puppy was immediately taken to the Vets but sadly had to be put down

If anyone has any information on this hit and run incident would you please report it to the North Wales Police Force.   The van driver should not be allowed to get away with it and the situation could have been a lot worse if the people had been struck by this vehicle too

Life raft belonging to missing north Wales fishing boat found off coast of Scotland

The life raft for fishing vessel Nicola Faith which went missing off the coast of Colwyn Bay on 27th January has been recovered. The raft was found off the coast of Kirkcudbrightshire by HM Coastguard and has been positively identified by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch as being from the Nicola Faith. The raft will be transported to the MAIB in Southampton for further investigation and analysis.

The investigation into the causes and circumstances surrounding the vessel’s loss is ongoing. The search for the vessel which is being co-ordinated by the MAIB is continuing. MAIB has been working with underwater search experts to cover a wide area including all of the vessel’s historic operating area.

The next of kin have been informed of this development.
