This year's 'flu strain is more virulent than usual, attacks older people more than usual and the current 'flu jab is only around 50% effective this year although last year's vaccine was almost totally ineffective in those aged over 65. You won't have had 'flu for a fortnight, though; it's normally around 4 - 5 days, during which you will have experienced:
aching muscles
aching joints
an elevated temperature
possible confusion
sore throat
the sincere wish to die
What you get after and if you survive it can be a cold, since your immune system becomes easy pickings to whatever's lurking about. This year's strain is an Australian import, and it's already running rampant in the UK, with hospitalisations due to the disease having rocketed over the New Year period. Get well soon and to everyone else - don't shake hands, eat or drink at cafes or visit shops when they're busy. And wash your hands every hour or so.
