I have never l have never flown in a plane (did have a short trip in a small helicopter I enjoyed) but I've a feeling my parents used to like the company when late 80s and/or early 90s they did some Greek Island hopping (land at Santarini and make your own way, eg. to Schinoussa???) so maybe it's a shame they've gone.

What of the airline that often seems to be in the news (and it strikes me as just a reader, often presented as "baddies").  Are they likely to get through all their flight cancellations, arguments over compensations, etc. I read about?

At least the pilots from Monarch will be able to get work with Ryanair, even if it is in the short term, until something better tuns up ?{}?

Analysts say that the main 2 reasons behind Monarch's collapse are...

1, Terrorist attacks.

2, Brexit.

What a terrible world we live in.

Monarch have had serious finance trouble since the Sousse and Sharm El-Sheikh terrorist attacks which made up the majority of their business, nothing to do with Brexit.  &shake&

BlongB, you are wrong Sir, the company said it themselves.

They were on very thin margins as it was, competing on European routes.
Then, the day after Brexit, fuel (priced in dollars) went up over 25% and plunged them into a loss making situation from which it was impossible to trade out of.
It was the 2nd major reason for their collapse, as I originally said.

Four Police vehicles - three unmarked - and one ambulance rushing Westwards along Maesdu road at 1130.  Anyone know more?

The New Year's Honours list has come out and there are knighthoods for Ringo Starr and Barry Gibb amongst others.

Hollins, sorry to disappoint you but there is no knighthood for David Beckham    $good$     Just imagine if there was, imagine a Lady Victoria       &shake&

Every year, I have the ‘flu jab.

Normally, I never ever get the ‘flu.

However, for the past fortnight I have suffered with a bout of ‘flu.

Is this evidence the current ‘flu jab does not work?

Or does the outcome vary from individual to individual?

It's not a bout of man flu is it Bri?     ;D

Seriously though,  having the flu is not very nice indeed and I suppose that I've been lucky and not had the flu after having had the flu jab.

When I was working some staff would have a sick day off in the middle of the week and say it was flu, but obviously at best it would have been a heavy cold.

Hope that you get over the flu soon Bri as it's not pleasant at all.

This year's 'flu strain is more virulent than usual, attacks older people more than usual and the current 'flu jab is only around 50% effective this year although last year's vaccine was almost totally ineffective in those aged over 65.  You won't have had 'flu for a fortnight, though; it's normally around 4 - 5 days, during which you will have experienced:

aching muscles
aching joints
an elevated temperature
possible confusion
sore throat
the sincere wish to die

What you get after and if you survive it can be a cold, since your immune system becomes easy pickings to whatever's lurking about.  This year's strain is an Australian import, and it's already running rampant in the UK, with hospitalisations due to the disease having rocketed over the New Year period. Get well soon and to everyone else  - don't shake hands, eat or drink at cafes or visit shops when they're busy. And wash your hands every hour or so.

Just to depress everyone further, this year's strain is H3N2.  The second worst pandemic ever - Asian 'Flu in 1957/8 - was H2N2 so this is a strain descended from that by antigenic drift.

Why can't we have our own British flu? We even import flu now!  &shake&  ;D

Thank you ME, Ian and Hugo for your feedback.

Yes, I have had these symptoms and many more including a cough, runny nose, catarrh, stuffy nose and lethargy.

I have always previously had my ‘flu jab from my surgery but this year I had it from the pharmacy.

I am not normally superstitious but next winter..............
