North Wales parents to be fined for children's truancy

A teaching union says the policy could 'cause more harm than good' as parents face fines of up to £120 if their son or daughter is away from school in term time
“What parents and children alike need is support rather than punishment.
“Parents need to be part of the solution and not be further alienated from the education of their children.
“Financially punishing parents will, in all likelihood, hit the most vulnerable people and those families closest to the poverty line.

And the holiday camps put the prices for kids cheap as chips in term time and ten times more expensive in the holidays. Surely that is incitement to break the law!
A lot of poorer parents wouldn't be able to afford to take their kids away in the holiday time.
So if you're rich and can afford to go away in the holidays  ££$
If you're poor and can only afford to take them away in term time we are going to fine you

I think it is so unfair on young families. I was looking at booking a holiday cottage on Anglesey recently and it wasn't hard to spot the half term weeks. This is just one example but they were all similarly priced.

This has been the same old story for many a year, and will no doubt continue for many a year to come.  Hence the advantage of being retired, one can get cheap out of season holidays, to all the best places!

Anglesey 'energy island' jobs

A north Wales college is set to get a £20m investment to make sure the area is ready to meet the demands of a new nuclear power station on Anglesey.

The new Wylfa Newydd nuclear plant will need 8,500 construction workers and a 1,000 station staff when built.

The Anglesey Energy Island strategy aims to bring in 2,500 new jobs and £2.3bn of investment over 15 years.
It is hoped local people will make up at least 20% of the construction workforce.
"This is going to be a massive project - the equivalent of the London 2012 Olympic village - and this could cause a big displacement from across local employers."

It's called supply and demand.
Local businesses are just as guilty as everyone else of maximising income.
Local shops have sales to sell things cheaper that they couldn't persuade prospective buyers to offer more for.Holidays should be seen in a similar light, off season it's a sale price.

As for private schools... what's that got to do with the argument !!! At the price that they charge parents deserve some cheaper holidays but in many cases can't afford to take them at all as they have invested in their children's future rather than their own short term pleasure
