My wife broke her leg at Christmas 2010 so we decided she would not go back to work, she was 57 and I was already retired. We reckoned we could survive reasonably well on my pension and inheritance from my parents not long deceased - I was ex-Hotpoint and getting that pension, with state pension to start in 2014 for me, at age 65. We thought that she would be getting her pension about the same time when she'd be 60. However, similar to Mrs Bri she was born just the wrong side of the cut-off date - which changed twice - consequently had to wait until July 2018 to get the pension, when she was only a few months off being 65, but at least she got the enhanced amount. Fortunately, we have been OK due to inheritances but many others have not been so fortunate.
