Mrs H popped over last night, with a couple of books for swapping, her verdict excellent, and wishes the children's project every success.

A LLANDUDNO primary school has opened a new outdoor community library available for public use.

Year Two students at Ysgol San Siôr funded the project through profits from its class enterprise, “Bee Mindful Buzziness”.

The community library, built by Dave Haynes, followed the success of an earlier “book swap” scheme at the school, and is well-stocked with books for both children and adults to enjoy.

Located just outside the school’s main entrance on Church Walks, it will also remain open during evenings and weekends for members of the public to browse its selection.

Year Two teacher Lisa Jones said: “They started off with the book swap within the school, and saw the success of that between the pupils. We looked then at what can be done to enhance that.

“They found the idea of an outdoor community library, and they used £200 of their business money to fund having it made.

“We’ve advertised it within the school community, so some of the pupils and their parents are using it, but it would just be lovely to see it being used by the local community.

“That’s why we’ve put it outside the school, rather than on school property, so it can be used by the community.

“We’ve got children’s and adult’s books there, and it’s just linking in with the school’s ethos of sustainability, rather than buying new all the time.

“It’s quite well-stocked at the moment, and can be accessed on evenings and at weekends. The children go once a week to tidy it up and make sure all of the books are quite presentable in there.”

Westshore like most of Llandudno, got the message last night at 6pm, to prepare our houses for flooding, moving items to higher levels, moving vehicles to higher ground etc, and packing a bag, ready for evacuation, allowing for three days away from home...........

Although the wind is still very strong, we are beginning to relax a little, quite an experience for us older folk, not one we would want to experience again.

I spent a lot of time watching the High tide info for Llandudno  https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/coast-and-sea/tide-tables/11/471

and the Westshore  Cafe Web Cam http://www.westshorebeachcafe.com/webcam-in-llandudno/  despite the national warning to stay indoors, the amount cars and walkers earlier, was surprising, however as it reached noon, high tide, there was a constant turnover of about 30 cars in the car park, most jumping out to take photos, and then disappearing quickly, this was topped when the web cam zooomed on three men who had managed to get to the end of the groynes to take their photos, madness.

It would be a good idea for someone to set up a Web Cam on north Shore, possibly one of the hotels, good for business, I kept wondering which direction it was going to come from? would have been very handy.

I went to the West Shore today and it looked no worse than it normally does so the area got off lightly with Storm Eunice.    The boat that the FOWS  put by the site of the old White Rabbit Statue  is still there but the top soil is quickly changing into sand

THIS is the size of rocks thrown out by the sea in Llandudno during stormy weather.

Llandudno Coastguard has shared the image of the rocks one of its patrol cars came across on Saturday to warn people of the dangers surrounding coastal areas during storms.

It said: "Coastal areas are expected to remain windy, so stay home and indoors if you can, only venturing to the coast if you really have to.

"If you do have to be out on the coast, stay well back from choppy seas and avoid exposed areas. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Just take a look at the size of the rocks thrown from the sea which our patrol came across yesterday.

"If you do see anyone in difficulty, phone 999 and ask for the coastguard."

I've just looked at the West Shore web cam and it's pretty rough out there at the moment.

A COMMUNITY group on Llandudno’s West Shore are turning their attention to dog fouling, ahead of Keep Wales Tidy’s Spring Clean campaign later this month.

‘Friends of the West Shore’ were founded in 2011 and have grown to an active paying membership of up to 45 people, while more than 1,000 followers make up their Facebook group.

The group is dedicated to improving to amenities of the West Shore Promenade in Llandudno.
Members of the group are all members of the public who either reside on the West Shore or use the area on a regular basis.

Litter picking, painting, weeding, edging, planting, and keeping disabled access sand free are just some of the group’s activities to maintain a clean coast, having also installed a second flower boat.

They are now focusing on dog fouling, which has become an increasingly big problem in recent times, and have created an active plan to remedy the situation.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Over the last 6 months we have seen the dog fouling problem get worse and worse around West Shore, it is as if when people stop bothering then others think ‘why should I bother?’.

“Our intention, and hope, is to encourage people to get back to bothering to pick up after their pets.”

They have received permission from Conwy County Borough Council (whose statutory team normally carry out public cleaning duties) to use fluorescent spray paint and stencils to highlight dog mess and the nearest disposal points, which, along with posters, have been provided to them by partners Keep Wales Tidy.

An example of the work being done with spray paint and stencils, in marking areas for greater dog-walker awareness
Some of the plans already in place are four designated areas from which to start the drive, with a team of eight prepared to monitor and spray.

Another creation dubbed ‘Dog Angels’ will be on hand, wearing arm bands branded ‘DOG ANGEL ASK ME’ when walking their own dogs to advise on locations of disposal bins and hand out bags.

Ysgol San Siôr pupils will also create posters to support the campaign.

“We need to spread the message that abandoning dog muck on the pavements and footpaths that we all use is completely unacceptable.

For those interested in finding out more about West Shore maintenance and improvement, and how they can help, you are welcome to join the group’s Facebook page.

Friends of the West Shore host weekly working parties, while meetings occur every six weeks at the Lilly Hotel on West Parade, West Shore Promenade, Llandudno.

It's just ironic how one small group of the Planning Committee members have created such an ecological disaster for Llandudno and the West Shore

I wonder if they were influenced by this DEFRA report?

A NEW DEFIBRILLATOR is up and running outside the West Shore Beach Café in Llandudno.

The defibrillator was installed after money was raised by the ‘Friends of the West Shore’ group from a number of community fundraising events, with calendar sale, raffles and donations contributing to the funds.

The group also received help from the Miniature Railway and the Café.

A spokesperson for the group said: “We raised the money jointly with the folk at the Miniature Railway and Kevin at the Cafe has allowed us to use his wall and his electric will power the box.

“We also want to thank ‘Save a Life Cymru’ for the AED (automated external defibrillator) itself – the unit and all pads are free of charge from them.”

Save a Life Cymru is an initiative established following the publication of the Welsh Government’s Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest Plan in 2017.

The scheme aims to create a cultural change across Wales where the Welsh public understand the need to help anyone who suffers a collapse because their heart has stopped beating, and to have the skills and confidence to start CPR and defibrillation, and help save a life.

The spokesperson for Friends of the West Shore added: “The money raised by sales of the calendar plus raffles, donations etc. are the only way we can pay for these improvements, so give yourself a pat on the back if you contributed!”    ref pioneer
