Daniel Craig's Welsh links revealed as his last Bond movie, No Time to Die finally hits cinema screens
The Hollywood star's family have North Wales roots

007 actor Daniel Craig maybe regarded as a quintessentially English actor but he very much comes from Welsh stock from both sides of his family.

Although he was born in Chester in 1968 and grew up on the Wirral, he is the son of Carol Williams, an art teacher and Timothy Craig, who later became the landlord of two pubs in Cheshire.

The grandfather of Craig, currently playing 007 for the last time in No Time to Die, was William John Gartland Craig, a grocer and a World War IIlieutenant-colonel who lived in Colwyn Bay.

And Craig’s paternal grandmother, Rosalinde Craig, came from Llandudno, and it's understood they moved to North Wales in the 1930s. Their son Timothy Craig was born in a maternity home in Colwyn Bay. Daniel’s father was brought up in a cottage, in Gronant, near Prestatyn.

And he's not the first; Timothy Dalton was born in Colwyn Bay.

From comic book heroes and family favourites to edge-of-seat thrillers and supernatural terrors there's something for everyone coming up

In a twist no Hollywood screenwriter saw coming Covid has changed the way we watch movies.

For the last year or so many of the big new releases have been available to stream at home with the popularity of on-demand rentals rising as the pandemic shut down more and more picture houses across the globe.

But, with lifting restrictions finally allowing cinema to make a come back, here are some of the best films 2022 has to offer – all of which can again be watched on the big screen as their makers intended.

Forget LA ? it?s British film studios that are in demand

Like it or loathe it, the Barbie movie has been the cinematic blockbuster of the year, taking more than $1.38bn (?1.1bn) at the box office so far.

The film, made with a reported budget of $145m, was produced by the US entertainment giant Warner Bros. But much of it was actually shot in the UK.

Barbie's pink paradise, Barbieland, was designed to look like a toytown California. But the set was built at Warner Bros studios in Leavesden, Hertfordshire.

The movie is one of a growing number of film and high-end TV projects to be wholly or partially produced in this country.

According to the British Film Institute (BFI), spending on such productions reached a record ?6.27bn last year, with most of that money coming from overseas.

A cinema-goer was left fuming after being slapped with a parking fine after watching the sequel to Dune at a North Wales Cineworld. The customer, who watched "Dune: Part Two" at the Llandudno Junction branch on Saturday, was fined for parking just over three hours.

This comes after new parking charges were introduced at the cinema's car park, sparking a heated debate. Cineworld has said customers can extend their parking time.
