Following on from the above posts, re. the new hotel at Surf Snowdonia.

Under the plan a 106-bedroom Hilton Garden Inn would open next to the lagoon along with a 'wellness spa' and conference facilities.
The company also revealed a new brand and more details of its game-changing new adventure offer which will open to visitors in summer 2019.
Surf Snowdonia, which opened in 2015, will rebrand to Adventure Parc Snowdonia to reflect its broader offer, although the 300-metre inland surf lagoon will remain a key part of the attraction.
Investment in the development will be in the region of £16m and Surf Snowdonia say around 100 new roles will be created.

A FORMER popular tourist attraction has officially been closed off to the public.

Bodelwyddan Castle Trust said said that public access is no longer granted for the woodlands, parklands, play area and trench experience. The trust were hoping to stay open until the end of the year, but 'various obstacles' have resulted in the early decision to close.

GRANTS from a fund which has paid out nearly £4 million in 10 years are on offer again this year.

Applications to the fund are being sought by The Gannett Foundation, the charitable arm of Gannett Co, Inc, owner of Newsquest Media Group, which publishes the North Wales Pioneer.

Charities in North Wales are being urged to apply for a grant from the fund, with a deadline of Friday, October 18. The judges will meet in November to choose the winners.

A spokesman for Newsquest said: “We value practical and creative projects that bring lasting benefits to the communities and neighbourhoods served by our newspapers and online audience.

“That includes schemes for neighbourhood improvement and local problem-solving, economic development, youth development, education and cultural enrichment, care of the elderly or infirm, help for the disadvantaged or disabled, and environmental conservation.

“We particularly invite clearly reasoned applications asking for specific items of equipment or materials. Most of our applications are for relatively modest sums meeting everyday needs and that will be our special focus in 2019.

“We are also able to join with other contributors to support elements of more ambitious projects. While preference will be given to ideas which create a tangible and durable benefit, we will consider single events, performances or other projects of limited duration that otherwise meet our criteria.”

Applicants must be registered charities, and must not have received a grant from the fund within the last two years.

Dramatic images of what's planned for the Ferodo and Plas Brereton sites have been released as the formal pre-application consultation gets underway.

Maybrook Investments, which owns Ferodo, had completed the deal to take on derelict mansions Plas Brereton and Plas Tŷ Coch.

The developer announced that they wanted to build a holiday village and water park on the site and were in discussions with Landal Greenparks, one of Europe’s leading park operators.           https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/incredible-images-show-whats-planned-17109448

I have read recently the difficulties Anglesey is having funding schools and doctors surgeries etc, and this mornings story that the WG is going to fund a 100 space Park and Ride at Gaerwen, costing £600.000 a great idea, but it does seem over expensive and hardly a priority.

Supermarket giants have launched a massive recruitment drive - with jobseekers crashing career sites.

Sectors like hospitality have had to cut workers as the country closes down many social activities to stem the spread of coronavirus.
But food stores have been booming as shoppers stock up on groceries and items like loo roll - and they need extra workers.

This has seen an urgent appeal for more staff with hopes they can take on some people left jobless by the problems hitting other sectors like tourism and hospitality.

Today there were up to 250 jobs within 50 miles of Conwy - from shop assistants to drivers - with many roles wanting an immediate start.

One of Europe's largest agricultural shows has been cancelled due to the "deteriorating situation" surrounding coronavirus.

The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society announced on Monday that the 2020 Royal Welsh Show will not go ahead in July.

Steve Hughson, chief executive, said: "It is with deep regret that due to the deteriorating situation surrounding Coronavirus, the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society after taking careful account of the latest Government and Public Health guidance, has today announced the cancellation of the 2020 Royal Welsh Show."                    ref Pioneer

New smoking laws will come into force later this month and will see certain types of cigarettes banned.

The legislation, which will be brought in on May 20 includes stripping menthol-flavoured cigarettes from the shelves.

Smokers will no longer be able to buy rolling tobacco or skinny cigarettes with a "characterising flavour other than tobacco" from UK stores.

The smoking ban is part of an EU Tobacco Product Directive law with the aim to attempt to stop young people smoking.
It is also part of a four-year plan to phase out flavoured cigarettes.

Financial details which remain 'unresolved' could prove a stumbling block in efforts to sell Bodelwyddan Castle

After 12-months of being on the market, Bodelwyddan Castle is attracting a considerable amount of interest.

It is understood, however, that financial details which remain unresolved could act as a stumbling block in efforts to sell castle.

The gothic revival style country house, set within 200 acres including farmland, parkland and woodland along with a two bedroom house - St Asaph Lodge - was put up for sale with an asking price of £1million after Denbighshire County Council withdrew its £144,000 annual grant in 2017.

Britannia Bridge fire:  50 years on

Two firefighters have recalled being trapped on the roof of a burning bridge, high above the Menai Strait, to mark the 50th anniversary of the fire.

On 23 May 1970, John Owen and Les Roberts were working for Anglesey Fire Service when they tackled a blaze on the Britannia Bridge - which links the island to the rest of Wales.

But they soon found themselves surrounded by flames and "panicking".

"It was that moment I shook hands with my maker," Mr Owen said.

They have told their story in detail for the first time as part of a BBC Wales programme to mark 50 years since one of the most dramatic fires in recent Welsh history.
