We cannot deny the investment made by these companies, and I am not be surprised by this decision.
A hotel and adventure centre at Surf Snowdonia has been given the green light by planners in Conwy. The plans, set to cost £10 million and create 100 jobs, will see the building of a 106-room hotel in Dolgarrog as well as a five-storey activity building.
The four-storey hotel would have facilities including a gym, spa, bar and restaurant, as well as treatment rooms and conference and other function rooms.
Officers had originally recommended that the application be refused after concerns were raised about the suitability of the development in such a rural area and issues over the flood risk.
But the recommendation was changed ahead of today’s meeting after the council received updates from the applicant.
Speaking against the plans at the planning commitee meeting, Catherine Mortimer Hart said: “Surf Snowdonia is a massive development in the county and has been a good use of a redundant industrial site, with the activity to date being enjoyed by thousands of visitors.
“The original application promised a major boost to all tourism businesses in the area.
“However, this proposal threatens to make the site completely self-contained and this will diminish the opportunities for local enterprise.” continued.....
