Nice try SDQ but I'm afraid that it is incorrect.

If you think that my last clue about the pond in Powys is a bit eft then I won't be offended because you could be right because it wasn't that great!       :-[

Opposite the cottage is the old Swan, which previously served as a public house, before becoming a shop and it's now a private house.

The largest colony of Great Crested Newts in mid Wales live in a pond in Powys that shares the same name as the former thatched cottage.

The answer is easy for the locals and anyone who has Chris Draper's book on walks in the area.    $good$

Penlan?

After reading about the Penlan Ponds project for Powys I can see where SDQ has had his answer from and he's the nearest so half a point to SDQ.
The answer is actually Granllyn but it's  >?>?? because I have no more clues for this one.

I had a look at the property years ago with a view to buying it.  It had potential and a red corrugated roof covered the thatch but the planning office would only let me extend it by 50 per cent and not the 100 per cent I needed.  That and the fact that it two septic tanks in the garden from the cottages across the road put me off buying it.

The building in Bryn Pydew Road is a small service reservoir (at one time you could see a large ball from a ball cock through the ventilation hole) probably built in the 1880s when a pipe was laid from Pensarn which also served the tank near Pabo Hall.  There's a similar one in Happy Valley now used as a store by the Council.

Thanks for that info Cambrian, I'll have a look for them when I'm walking in that area.    There is a larger reservoir in Happy Valley which is under the putting green there and it's a fascinating bit of Victorian architecture.

That is amazing. Thanks Hugo.
I get the jitters going in those underground car parks in the railway warehouses in Manchester so there's no way I could go down there but I never knew anything about it until now.

If it's any consolation Hollins I was invited by the Great Orme Exploration Society to go down with them on one of their visits to the Copper mines but I bottled it.       :-[       &shake&
Their website is good with some great photos of the copper mines

Thanks for posting the pictures and links Hugo, that looks amazing!

Could we go down there as a 3 towns forum day out instead of the pub?  :D

Tks Hugo for that. As much as I would like to see the reservoir it would no longer be a secret if I did. There is no way that I could manage to deal with that, Air sea rescue would be needed !! :o
