Hugo, as we seem to have been a bit light on history in recent weeks, perhaps I could add a footnote.  Mochdre was the site of the first locomotive troughs in Britain but all remaining trace of the reservoir has now gone. The attractive, small signal box, controlling 10 signals, survived until 1967 when the two slow lines were removed. In latter years it had only been used on Summer Saturdays enabling additional trains to use the section between Colwyn Bay and the Junction. The station master's house alongside Station Road was still occupied until the Expressway was constructed and so the little house with its garden were swept away.

Hugo ... thanks for that info, it was totally new to us.

I have my wife's family tree back to Owen Pritchard (b1832) & Ellen Davies (b1829) at Glan-y-Wern.  their daughter Anne (my wife's great-grandmother) was born in 1866, in Eglwysbach as was her mother - father Owen born in Dolwyddelan.

I have also worked on my family tree (Thomas), my father's side based in Eglwysbach and Glan Conway.  My Taid Ezekiel (b 1880) had a brother named Thomas Thomas (b 1858) who married an Ellen Pritchard (b 1863), both born Eglwysbach, and Ellen's parents were Owen & Ellen.

That means that my wife's great-grandmother Anne Pritchard (Jones) and my great-aunt Ellen Pritchard (Thomas) were sisters!

In 1871 the Pritchard family lived in Eglwysbach, but in 1881 they were at Glan-y-Wern and there are children and grand-children on each of the censuses 1881, 1891 and 1901 but I cannot work out who the parents of some of the grand-children were!

Hugo ... which of Chris Draper's books will I find the information about the tithes in, he seems to have a lot of books on Amazon!

DVT,   I've 4 walking books by Chris Draper as well as his other book "Llandudno before the hotels"         The book that the Mochdre walk is in is called " Walks from Llandudno"    and even if you don't do the walks reading about them is still interesting.

Thanks Cambrian for sharing that information with us and it is nice to have some contribution to our history as we all know bits so it's good to put them together

Thanks Steve,  it's nice when we pool our knowledge together and build up a bigger picture of the people and places         $good$

DVT,,,    I've also got Chris Draper's book " Walks in the Conwy Valley" and walk 7 in it is the Eglwysbach walk.       In it there is a bit about a local boy Robert David Thomas who emigrated to America,   could he have been a relative of yours?

I had a nice walk this morning and came across this lovely and peaceful setting and took some photos

1)      Where is it?

2)       What was here over 100 years ago?

A good guess Bri but it wasn't a well.

So where is it and what was it over 100 years ago?

This photo should help to identify the location at least?

I don't know but at a guess I think it could be the top end of Coed Coch Road Old Colwyn  or between Nant Y Glyn & Groes Road .

One of your guesses is very very close Robbie but which one?              Perhaps this photo may help you to identify the location  but can it help to identify what this area was previously?        ?{}?

A good try Cambrian but it's not in Old Colwyn.     Robbie has been very near with his guess and a young Spotty Dog has actually been there but it may have changed since he was there.
