Schools in the three towns area
« on: December 08, 2010, 06:20:33 pm »
Our restoration project for Llanrhos Old School is progressing very well. Fundraising by members of the committee has brought in around £5000.
Planning Permission for the works have been granted.
The significant grant application to the Welsh Assembly has been submitted and we hope to hear whether this will be granted in early 2011, hopefully in February. If we get this grant then it will give us enough income to be able to start the project.

As part of the project we would like to collect as much history about the site as possible.

Can any Forum members help in identifying or providing information on the history of the Llanrhos Old School

Hi,

Recently paid a visit to Llandudno & Craig-y-Don to see an old school friend buried - Ian Haslock. This was my 1st visit since 1968. Really good to meet up with some old school friends even though the occassion was sad.

By the way, my name is Phill Plevey and I used to go to Lloyd Street School & Ysgol Mostyn for my sins. Left in 1963 to join the Royal Navy.

To those who remember me - Hi - to those who don't know me - Hi. Will be back there again soon, loved the place as a boy and loved it even more when last there.

Hi Phill and welcome.

Do you remember any of these kids at Lloyd Street school or were they much older than you ?

Llandudno is NOT my "old home town" but I have actually lived here for many years longer than any other place I have lived.  I moved with my family, first parents and then wives, almost every 2 to 3 years until we finally came to Llandudno where I have now been for nearly 24 years.  Even here we have had 3 different homes, maybe I should have been a Nomad!      :D

It was a few years before my time Bri but I should know some in the team but can't be certain of any.   The lad second from R on the back row reminds me of Gerald Parry who lived on Maesdu Road near me but can't think who the others are. Possibly Johny Griffin in the centre front row?

Well done, Hugo, with Gerald Parry.

However, there's no Johny Griifin in this one.

Nevertheless, here is the full line-up:

Back Row L-R
Glyn Dryhurst Roberts
Bryan Kirkham
Arthur Kavanagh
Brian Baister
Peter Brown
Alan Davies
Gerald Parry
James Gilford

Front Row L-R
Colin Wells
Philip Pounder
John Parry
John Small
Peter Jones

Its been 42 years!  Couldn't you have made it before he was buried??

I didn't play in those Blackburn Rovers strip until 1957/58 so that's why I didn't know those lads although I do remember John Parry who I mistook for Johny Griffin.
Now Bryan Kirkham lived in Cwm Place too and I knew him.  Jas who has recently returned here to live from Australia is Bryan's sister and she posted a notice in the forum that when they moved to Llandudno from Blaenau Ffestiniog they both  attended Dyffryn Road School.
Apparently they could only speak Welsh and the teacher at Dyffryn Road had to translate all the lessons for them.  Bryan must have moved to Lloyd Street later on so that was Lloyd Streets gain as they must have had a good team then not like when I played for them!   :(

1957-58.

Perhaps, Hugo, you should have joined Dyffryn Road as they had a better team that year.

Yes Bri,  I've played football in the same team as some of them and Jimmy Heath the goalie was always going to keep you in the game.
I can spot Jimmy, John Noke,Alan Williams and Brian Twitchett all good players in their day. Some of the other faces are familiar too but I can't put a name to them.  Can you name the rest?

Hugo, I won't make it too easy for you.

Here are the names from that 1957-58 school team for you to put to faces.

Incidentally, one of those young lads went on to play for Everton.

J Heath, G Roberts, B Jones, K Green, G Humphries, R Mound, A Evans, R Breeze, W Albey, J Turner and J Nokes

Alan Williams and Brian Twitchett?

Yes he is. I still see him occasionally but not seen Daz for years!
