The BBC TV licence fee is set to be scrapped in five years with the broadcaster’s funding frozen for the next two years, the government has said.

The annual payment, which normally changes on April 1 each year, is expected to be kept at the current rate of £159 until April 2024, with additional ways of funding being considered by Nadine Dorries.

The culture secretary said the next announcement concerning the BBC’s licence fee “will be the last” as a new funding model is being considered for when the latest deal expires in 2027.

A bit of weekend TV and film trivia.............

15 Marvel, Netflix and Hollywood stars you might not know are from North Wales
They have many accolades under their belts

This was a surprise .............. Comedienne and actress Dawn French was born in Holyhead’s former Y Gors maternity hospital in 1957, while her father Denys was a corporal technician stationed at nearby RAF Valley.

My walking mates and I have walked in Cwm Orthin many times but have never been down the many mines that are in the area.  However on Monday there is a feature about these mines and Old Uncle Albert sent me this message about the mines.   It might be worth watching for anyone interested in this type of thing

Monday 31st Jan 2022 on Yesterday at 8 pm.Apparently the shaft can accommodate the eiffel tower and statue of liberty

Although the timing is not great, I enjoyed the first episode of the Ipcress Files last night on ITV, it took me back to the sixties, looking forward to watching the whole series.

The I'm a Celebrity castle is set to return to our TV screens as filming for a BBC show takes place. A television crew has arrived at Gwrych Castle in Abergele today to film an episode of Antiques Road Trip.

Images from the scene show presenters James Braxton and Izzie Balmer chatting to each other next to a classic car. It will mark a return to TV fame for the castle, which acted as a set for two series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here filmed at the site during the pandemic.

A new look X-Ray will return to BBC One Wales for a new series on May 30th at 8pm and will be travelling around the country for six weeks from today.

For nearly two years – through the height of the pandemic – X-Ray was filmed inside BBC Wales’ Central Square building in Cardiff. Now, with restrictions easing, the programme is going back out on the streets of Wales to meet the public. And with the current cost of living crisis, X-Ray has never been more important.

The X-Ray team, including presenter Lucy Owen, will be hitting the road, bringing a new look pop-up set to six different towns and cities and members of the public are invited to come along...Llandudno North Shore Beach Promenade (near Prince Edward Square) – June 21

The new series will feature a new ‘Ask the X-Ray Expert’ section, where viewers can meet the team and ask for advice from experts on subjects such as building work, buying a car or booking a holiday.

I've enjoyed watching "Wales Home of the year"  it's on BBC Wales on Friday evening at 7.30pm.      Last night's episode featured 3 properties in the N West Wales area.       One was an old farmhouse in the Llyn Peninsula, another was from Church Walks Llandudno and the third was from Gannock Park Deganwy
I particularly wanted to see Hunter's Lodge in Deganwy as I viewed the property C1985 with a view to buying it when I was moving with work.
It then had an asking price of about 50K   but since then a lot of work has gone on improving the place and it was last on the market at a price over 800K.
It's a beautiful house but last night's winner was the house in Church Walks

BBC's The Repair Shop emotional scenes as blind veteran's bugle is restored in moving moment
Billy is a blind veteran at the Llandudno blind veteran's rehabilitation centre and was overjoyed to receive his restored bugle back on BBC One's The Repair Shop, he is also the Llandudno Town Crier.

The Repair Shop on BBC One often promises emotional moments when owners are reunited with their restored, treasured possessions. This was the case when a blind veteran from the Llandudno blind veteran's rehabilitation centre received back his bugle after it had been completely restored by expert Pete Woods.

Billy Baxter was gifted the bugle by Nicky Shaw, who accompanied him to The Repair Shop workshop. Nicky had the bugle in her family for years with the instrument passed down from her great grandfather and wanted to continue seeing it being used.

For the last 10 days and it's still continuing Mrs H  and I have had to stay with our dog 24/7 following his operation.    During that time we have been watching TV more often than usual and it's amazing just how much there is available to see on it
On BBC 1  I Player we have enjoyed " Scotland's home of the year" and one of the judges is a guy called Banjo Beale an Australian who presently lives on The Isle of Mull
Today we found out that Banjo Beale also has his own TV programme and it's called "Designing the Hebrides"      It's worth watching even if it's only to see the beautiful scenery of Mull and the buildings there
No wonder our forum friend Mull chose to live there many years ago
