People across the world are celebrating Christmas - one of the holiest times in the Christian calendar. However, for the second year in a row, there are smaller crowds at church services and other events because of the continuing coronavirus outbreak. Here's our snapshot of global festivities.

The 'breathtaking' beauty of Victorian Britain is revealed in a series of newly-discovered paintings completed by a mysterious artist on their 19th-century staycation.

The sketches, contained within a book titled My Holiday, depict beauty spots in Dorset, Cornwall, Norfolk, Wales, the Channel Islands, and more.

Famous landmarks that feature include Jersey's La Corbiere Lighthouse, Swallow Falls in north Wales and Cobo Bay in Guernsey.

Found in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, by a man clearing out the library of his late father, the paintings date from between 1891 and 1897.

A CONWY photography exhibition has drawn attention from around the world in its depiction of the rural beauty of the county.

The activity was part of a Dyffryn Dyfodol project which is looking at different ways of working with communities in rural Conwy to make positive changes,

People were invited to submit one image of a place that was important to them in rural Conwy, yet the reception the competition received worldwide was surprising. ref pioneer

The images can be seen in an online photo exhibition homepage.... https://ffiwsar.com/projects/shared-photos-of-rural-conwy/

15 stunning pictures as first winter snow blankets North Wales
North Wales resembled an Alpine wonderland as snow fell across the entire Eryri (Snowdonia) range. The mountains looked majestic in the clear but freezing blue skies as temperatures tumbled in the coldest week so far of the winter.

Camera Club members share winter photos before Christmas

WE haven't had the heavy snowfall of years gone by, but there have been some sprinklings of the white stuff in the days before Christmas.

There have also been a few cold and frosty mornings.

A Banksy-style mural near a North Wales lifeboat station has been encased in perspex to protect it from vandals and the elements. Denbighshire Council staff covered up the artwork within a day of its discovery on a wall in Rhyl.

The mural shows a heart-shaped safety buoy attached to an anchor marked ?RNLI?. It was sheathed with perspex even though no one has yet stepped forward to claim responsibility for the painting, located on a sea wall between the SeaQuarium in Rhyl and the town?s RNLI station.

Update

Identity of artist behind Rhyl's Banksy-style mural 'revealed' in cryptic Instagram post
The mystery painting has a touching message behind it

An artist known as D.N.Z has claimed responsibility for the piece and explained the touching reason behind it. In a series of posts on Instagram, user @dnz_uk explained the meaning behind the "Lifeboy" painting.

D.N.Z wrote: "Originally born and raised in North Wales, I painted this piece next to the RNLI Station in Rhyl.

"I did this to thank all of the people volunteering for the RNLI across the country and to all the lives saved, and sadly lost over the many of years. This is also for the people of the community to appreciate and to remember the hard work that the RNLI do all year round.
