I received a V5C Registration through the post this morning, nothing unusual about that, except Mr Damion Kelly the proud owner of a Blue Mercedes 220 CDI Estate does not live at my address or have my Post Code. I used the 101 number to report it to NWP and sent the Registration Form back to the DVLA.

Similar thing happened about three years ago - my mother-in-law (RIP) received a notice of tax renewal for a car registered to someone at her address.  The name was not hers, the car was a one-year-old Mercedes with local registration.  I contacted DVLA to say there was something wrong with their records and they should perhaps contact the local Mercedes dealer to ascertain the correct address of the owner.  DVLA said they could not do that as the details they had were correct (!).

We ignored the mailshot, then a second one arrived so I contact NWP and they seemed very reluctant to follow things up, but I sent copies of the correspondence and a statement to say that my mother-in-law lived on her own, was nearly 90 years old, had never held a driving licence and the only time a car was registered to her address was in the late 1970's when her husband bought and ran, for a short time, an Austin Allegro, definitely not a Merc!.  We didn't hear any more.

Bit odd that this latest one is also a Mercedes.

I have seen advice for drivers whose cars will not run properly on E10 that they should now use Super Unleaded ... but that is not avaiulable everywhere, and also costs quite a bit more.

I do occasionally put Super in my Honda Civic Type R as recommended - there is a slight improvement in mpg but the higher cost makes it not worthwhile to do it all the time.  Be interesting to see if E10 shows a similar mpg improvement, but at the "standard" cost.

Remember all the fuss when leaded petrol stopped, you had to buy additives or modify your engine.

Drivers are being warned of long delays when renewing driving licences due to a major backlog.

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has warned motorists submitting paper documents to apply for, renew or change the details of their driving licence that big delays should be expected.

They blamed the disruption on industrial action linked to coronavirus safety fears.

Filled my car's fuel tank on Thursday - the new E10 petrol.  Yesterday went to daughter's house in Liverpool for the day.

Previously, when I checked the fuel consumption of this particualr journey the car returned about 36 mpg (as shown on dashboard, in reality a couple less).  Yesterday, same journey, 125 miles there and back, and the dashboard shows 38.7 and I wasn't deliberately driving economically, far from it!

I had seen somewhere that mpg with E10 was expected to be worse, so if yesterday's figures are anything to go by I will be happy!  I have kept records since car was new and it is on 31mpg (dashboard shows 33).  Anyone else doing a check on their car?

A new government plan could see motorists pay a fee for every mile that they drive.

The charge may be introduced to raise money for the UK Government and to help reach climate change targets.
According to recent reports, the toll system could be introduced to all roads in the UK.

Tolls are currently restricted to some bridges, and areas such as the M6 toll - where car drivers pay £7 to use the motorway.
Other pre-existing systems see drivers have to pay a congestion charge to drive in London.

The move is reported to be under consideration as the Government faces falling review from fuel duty.
The Government will get less and less cash from motorists as more switch to electric cars.

Rishi Sunak has previously expressed an interest in the move, and the Daily Mail reports that the scheme is back on the agenda.
The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change published a report calling for road pricing to be introduced in August.

It said: “A new system of vehicle taxation is urgently needed. As more people purchase electric vehicles, changes to taxation will be harder to manage.

Crazy isn't it?

Having done a lot to get people to not use petrol/diesel they are now realising there will be a great loss of tax income.

Hopefully electric vehicles will get taxed per mile as well, and remove the tax on petrol/diesel otherwise that will be a double tax for those of us who choose not, or cannot afford, to get rid of their current cars and buy a more expensive electric car.

I could afford to, but my kids certainly couldn't - and they wouldn't be the only ones.  It'll be the poorest who are the hardest hit.

And cost of evertything will go up, as most things are delivered by road - the vehicles covering many miles per annum.

Let's see a tax on bicycles using the road - they have £millions spent on them.

It's certainly a crazy thing to do DVT and it makes you think how much thought has gone into this idea.    Obviously if we all had electric cars then there would be no road tax coming in and in any case cars wouldn't be travelling too far due to a shortage of power points for charging the vehicles up

Another crazy idea with no thought whatsoever going into it was the decision of abolishing paper car tax discs.     Brilliant idea it saved £10 million per year but then lost over £100 million each and every year since.
The Government are aware of this but denied the allegations that the lost revenue was about £400 million and yet the do very little about the loss of revenue
