A  number of changes to driving laws could come into effect for motorists using roads in the UK and the rest of Europe.
The DVLA have also introduced some changes for 2019, and continue to do so.

So, to help you get to grips before the changes come in.............    https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/new-driving-laws-you-need-16922583

Re: Cars................“far too many tragedies” on roads in North Wales."
« Reply #842 on: September 30, 2019, 03:43:22 pm »
POLICE officers raised awareness of the dangers surrounding road use as part of a Europe-wide day of action, amid concerns over “far too many tragedies” on roads in North Wales.

North Wales Police (NWP) made the road safety pledge for Project Edward’s ‘European Day Without a Road Death’ campaign, established by the European Traffic Police Network in 2016 to draw attention to the average of 70 deaths occurring every day on the continent.

On September 26, police forces and law enforcement agencies from across Europe brought attention to the consequences of the most common dangerous behaviours by drivers and encouraged motorists and cyclists to sign up to the Project Edward road safety pledge. It includes commitments such as not using your mobile phone, being vigilant for the needs of different vehicles, taking care not to tailgate and reminding close ones to take extra care.

Chief superintendent Neill Anderson of NWP said that “one of the hardest jobs a police officer has to do is visit relatives to tell them a loved one has died”.

He said: “Reducing casualties remains a priority for North Wales Police. We want to encourage all road users to think about their driving and how this can be improved for their own and others’ safety.

“Aspects of bad driving all combine to make our roads unsafe with speeding, driving without a seatbelt, using a mobile phone, drugs, alcohol and dangerous driving being five elements which influence this.

“All road users must play their part and make the extra effort to look out for each other.”

Officers from other emergency services including North Wales Fire and Rescue Service (NWFRS) and the Welsh Ambulance Service (WAS) also pledged their support for the international campaign.

Dermot O’Leary, road safety champion for the WAS, said: “Crews attend‎ too many road traffic collisions and see too many deaths and serious injuries on the roads of North Wales.”

Justin Evans, head of community safety for NWFRS, added: “As firefighters, we witness first-hand the terrible aftermath of road traffic collisions. By changing our driving behaviour we can help to make our villages, towns and cities safer places to be.

“Every action that we take, as a driver or as a passenger, can change the outcome of a journey and the future of a family.”

No figures for Wales, but the UK is 6th in the world for road fatalities, 6th for Road fatalities per 100,000 vehicles and 4th for road deaths per billion vehicle km. In the most recent report, however, the UK has 3.1 road traffic deaths per 100,000 population. That’s only slightly behind Switzerland and Sweden and a fair bit behind Maldives and Micronesia.  But overall we’re the sixth safest place on the planet in terms of road safety.

We were just going to go up Invalid's Walk when I noticed this immaculate MG in the garden of the Toll House, the owner of the car came out and invited us to have a look at it and we had a nice chat with her before setting off on our walk
The second car was in Cwlach Street and that was in very good condition too

The government plans to close a legal loophole that has allowed drivers who use mobile phones to film or take photographs to escape prosecution.

It is illegal for drivers to call or text on hand-held phones but some have dodged punishment for taking photos.
In July, a man overturned a conviction for filming a crash, saying he was not using his phone "to communicate".

The government aims to revise the laws to also include browsing the internet and searching playlists while driving.
It says the current legislation has fallen behind advances in smartphone technology.

My OH followed a 4 by 4 up the zig zag road towards St. Tudno's earlier this week. The driver was steering with one hand and the other was out of the window holding a selfie stick.

It's a shame that he hasn't got a dash cam in the little Moggie as that would have gone viral.

What a vain plonker doing something like that, especially on that road

He sold the Moggie Minor in May, now has a Rover 100 Kensington. Don't ask me why...apart from the fact that the Moggie wasn't exactly reliable ! I have only been in the Rover a few times, having only just got to going out again after 4 months of being hospitalised and housebound It has better suspension...no cart springs !

Rover 100 Kensington ... a posh Metro, quite a rarity these days in any form.

I have owned two Metros, one a 997cc and the other the MG version - both totally reliable in my ownership, even though both were used in competition as well as daily use!
