Two car events this weekend, but close together....'Cars on the Prom' at Rhos  and...........

Porsche on the Prom event to take place in Llandudno this weekend
Hundreds of Porsche owners will descend on Llandudno this weekend when the town becomes a showground for the iconic cars.

Porsche owners from all over the country will attend the Porches on the Prom event which takes place on Sunday, May 22, from 10am to 3pm on Llandudno Promenade, where fellow owners and observers alike can see the vehicles lined up Le Mans style.

Porsche Club members are invited to arrive from 10am. There is no need to pre-register and participation is free.

A spokesman for the Porsche Club said: "The North Wales Region has been working hard to create another fantastic day with hundreds of Porsches expected to line the promenade in a spectacular display.

"Porsche Centre Chester will be supporting the day by sending a selection of cars which will be parked outside the hotel for viewing. Members of the Porsche teamwill be on hand to talk about the driving experience at the off-road circuit in Wrexham."  ref Pioneer

Rallying cost talks stall with Natural Resources Wales.
Concerns have been raised about rallying in Wales' forests as the sport's governing body said new costs sought by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) would be "unworkable".
The Motor Sports Association (MSA) has agreed deals in England and Scotland but talks are continuing in Wales.
NRW said it had to recover its costs.
Former British rallying champion Gwyndaf Evans said he was concerned racing could become "prohibitively expensive" in Wales.
"If these increases happen... there's a danger that rallying may have to stop in Wales," he said.
"And that would be a tragic loss to all the competitors but also all the suppliers throughout the sport and to tourism in Wales."

Plan to almost DOUBLE cost of rallying through Welsh forests is challenged
A campaign group called #Rally4Wales has been set up to combat the price change, which would take effect from June 2016 onwards

Thanks for highlighting that Steve.  The proposal, if carried through, will make the cost of entering forest rallies such as the local Cambrian Rally, prohibitive and result it its demise.  The Cambrian, along with the Wales Rally GB, bring in a lot of revenue to the locality - two years ago a survey was conducted on the Cambrian and it was estimated that the event is worth over £300,000 to the Conwy County area.  It is therefore important that support is given to sort out this issue - it is only the Welsh Forestry (Natural Resource Wales) that have put forward this 100% increase in fees, the English and Scottish forestry have agreed with a 0.7% increase.

To give you some idea of the costs involved in hiring the forests the Cambrian Rally pays about £25,000 for about 25 miles of forestry roads used.  This has to be accounted for in the event entry fees.  100% increase would push the event entry fee up by about £200 and with the majority of the competitors funding out of their own pockets then the number of entries will drop to a point where the whole event becomes financially unstable.

Your support in signing the petition would be much appreciated.  The matter is an item on the agenda for the Welsh Assembly when they first meet, and there has been a lot of support from the AM's, for which the motorsport community is extremely grateful.

Thank you.

Quiz: Can you pass the driving licence theory test?

Changes to the driving theory test in recent years led to pass rates falling dramatically.
In 2008, seven out of 10 tests were passed. But a number of changes made by the government in subsequent years saw the pass rate fall.
In 2014, just five out of 10 people passed.

The theory test was introduced in 1996, and replaced questions about the Highway Code during the practical test.

You might be an experienced driver, but can you pass the driving theory test?

Same here Ian, I put 1mm depth instead of 1.6mm.

M.E. Good luck with the motorbike, you made me think ,....and after checking my licence,... I am still able to ride a motorbike after passing my test in 1966 and have not ridden one since 1969 ?..... Maybe as they say.... Its like riding a bike !    $00$

16/16. Must be driving on the Isle of Mull which is now manic.
So many visitors this year due to RET( Road Equivalent Tariff ) fares on Calmac ferry, car return fare now reduced from £74 to £26.
Trouble is most roads are single track and visitors especialy the hire car drivers have not got a clue. Seem to think the car will become thinner so they can pass without using the passing places .Local garages doing well towing them out of ditches etc.

Yes, theory is one thing but actual driving is another.     The shop near me has a parking area for about 12 cars and has recently been resurfaced and the white lines painted in.
The other day there were only three cars parked there and not one had parked between the lines.     As for reversing that's even worse.

When you come face to face with them and they unclip the seatbelt to reverse you know this will take a while.
Just what you need when trying to make an appointment at the doctors/vet/dentist or check in for a ferry.
