Standard Flying Twenty as I had in about 1955/56.  It boasted a Six Cylinder engine with a Seven Bearing Crankshaft.  New cost was about £299, but mine cost me the grand sum of £80 second hand.  It would do 75 mph and returned about 20 mpg, but at 1/6 a gallon I could just about able to take it out for the occasional spin.   A few months after I bought it, the Suez Crisis added another shilling to the price per gallon.   I was in the RAF so money was a bit tight and she had to go!

What was said before about wishing you still had it, it looks great, reminded me, of a Riley, a friend had in the late 60s,     and the cost of petrol, those were the days.

Interesting, Y.  I didn't realise that petrol reached half-a-crown a gallon in the mid-'50s. Did it see much of a fall after the crisis was resolved?

I seem to remember that petrol was about 3/4p (17p in today's numbers) when I started driving in 1966 - it cost me £1 to fill the tank of my Mini Countryman every Friday at Black Cat, and it would last me the week of going to work plus a bit of running around at the weekend - probably about 150 miles in total.

It now costs me over £70 to fill the tank of my current car (SEAT Leon) at Black Cat - but that does give me 500 miles of motoring!!!

Black Cat has changed quite a bit - it was a small place and a man in white coat used to come out and put the fuel in - payment by cash only of course!

In 1965 our Mini cost £1 and tuppence half-penny in old money to fill. Petrol was 2 shillings and a half-penny a gallon.

Seems we disagree on the price of petrol back in the good old days! ... and theaa.com website has it around the 60p mark!!!  There is a page that gives the price every year and you can see how it rockets!  Others websites seem to suggest 50p a gallon in 1966 - google "how much was a gallon petrol in 1966" (or ... 1965)!

Suppose it can depend on where and what kind-- my Dad back in the 1950s always used to laugh about a garage on the East Lancs road which offered free eggs with petrol !

On our way back from Switzerland we passed this car rally. Unfortunately the photos were taken through the car window with a phone but hopefully there may be something of interest.

VIP Honda Hospitality at BTCC .  I'm rather tempted by this even though I don't have my S2000 anymore!

Our friends at Honda UK and Honda Yuasa Racing are offering all S2KUK members the chance to attend one of the last 2 weekends of the season as a VIP Guest.  Including breakfast & lunch, driver Q&A, garage tours!
The cost is £75 per person and includes entry to VIP Honda area on the Saturday and entry only ticket to Sunday raceday.
