New carpet!
« on: June 06, 2013, 12:29:27 pm »
Just had a new carpet fitted.  Anyone know how to get rid of the smell? Ugh.
Also anyone recommend a joiner who can take the bottom of the door off without making a pigs ear?

Thanks.

The smell is probably the wool underlay. It'll go in a few days if it is.

Normally the Carpet fitters adjust the doors!   Any reasonable chippy (not fish and chippy) should be able to do it, but the carpet fitters normally use a special machine that does it without removing the doors.

Thanks both for this.  I had a call from Carpetright after posting here asking if I was satisfied.  I said yes but the smell of man made fibres is horrible they agreed with you Ian and said it should dissipate in 4/5 days.  Fingers crossed.

I've never had carpet fitted before so didn't think to check the door until we went to bed!

If you know of anyone who can do it please let me know.  We rent the house so don't want to make a mess.

Suggest you also get approval of the Landlord or he may charge you for a new door when you leave!

Carpetright should know a reliable chap to chop off the bottom of the door.

Personally I would use Christopher Groom, the Son of Linda Groom who is one of our Town and County Councillors.  He helped me with a major loft conversion and also hung 6 doors in the process.  Sorry don't have his latest contact number.   ZXZ
