I used to love those boats and then one year we came in August and they were gone and replaced by the Golden Goose amusement arcade   :'( :'( :(   I can't remember which year, around 1970?

The Golden Goose was built in 1969/70, so you are spot on. Back then, the pier's original owners, the Llandudno Pier Company, sold out to TrusthouseForte Leisure, who had been buying up piers around the UK and 'modernising' them by building large amusement arcades at their entrances.

Pat Colin's fairground in Colwyn Bay had the same electric powered boats. I always preferred them to the dodgems, they were more peaceful and, I used to think, he had to have more skill to control them

I've often wondered if they would be allowed today with all the over the top health & safety we have to put up with these days!

You would probably have to wear a lifejacket today.

I guess she could be an older sister to John Cravetto.

Probably sometime in the 1890s.

Father used to work on those boats at the pier entrance at one time and they seemed then to be connected with Tucsons amusements underneath the boats because he would also work there at times as well. I've got a photo of him and Jock Leslie on the pier in the snow of 1946 so perhaps it was then, although my memory says it was later. I've also a niggling feeling they had some connection with the Osborne hotel - they were his mates and he also used to drive Bob Kerr's taxis. :-\

Hi does anyone know the date of the labour club childrens party photo? A little girl on it looks a lot like myself at that age.

That was on the old Forum, rather than this one. I do have the old database of posts but its very difficult to pull any information out of it easily. Nonetheless, I shall have a go at resurrecting the Local Characters thread when I get some time.  :)
