Surely no woman in the history of Wales ever dressed like that... I thought it was a myth, designed to sell things to tourists?

Think I once bought that pic on a greetings card and it inferred that the teapot was full of gin ! I forget the exact words.

My Grandmother always called Gin "Mother's ruin" as housewife's used to drink it as it left no alcohol smell on their breath.

They often became dependant on the stuff.

Whilst talking with Rob Pritchard last night, the subject of "Welsh dress" was  bought up. I too had always thought the "Welsh Ladies" dress was a myth, he reckons they did wear very similar clothing to that of the postcards as in, the hat, long skirts and shawl, however it was the uniformed colour, black and red that was the myth.  *&(

it's not a myth, I've seen a lady dressed like that several times by that tiny house on the quay at Conwy  :)
