Where Wales stands in ranking of 50 countries on the Nation Brands Index
The Anholt-Ipsos Nation Brands Index(NBI) report on Wales has been released by Welsh Government

It aims to assess a country’s overall image and reputation across six dimensions of national competence all of which are treated equally.

The six dimensions are: ‘Exports’, ‘Governance’, ‘Culture’, ‘People’, ‘Tourism’ and‘ Immigration and Investment’.

There are two elements, how the world perceives Wales and how the Welsh rank their own nation.

The findings are important because how a country is viewed internationally can have an effect on its relations with other countries, and its business, trade and tourism efforts.

The results:
Wales was placed in the top half of the NBI, ranking in 21st place overall out of the 50 countries, a decent performance for its first foray into the rankings.

While you may automatically think of our amazing coastline and stunning mountains when you think of Wales, we have some beautiful gardens too - and two are named among the top 30 British gardens to visit, with one topping the list.

Using travel reviews and ratings from travel website TripAdvisor, the Indian Fire Bowl Company complied the list. And coming first with a rating of five out of five stars and over 2,000 reviews is Bodnant Garden, near Conwy.

AN EPIC 360-mile touring route designed by the team behind Attractions of Snowdonia is once again opening up partnering opportunities with North Wales businesses as the tourism economy heads boldly out of lockdown.

Snowdonia 360 is a unique journey taking in the best of North Wales, including top attractions, accommodation providers, eateries and retailers, helping drive visitors to the area as an all year round destination.

It takes in a vast range of places to visit, ranging from internationally recognised hotspots to hidden gems way off the hidden track.

With a renewed confidence following an in-demand summer, the organisation is now calling on like-minded businesses and enterprises interested in becoming part of the initiative, to get in touch.

Jonathan Williams-Ellis, chair of Attractions of Snowdonia and Snowdonia 360, said: “Lockdown inevitably put an abrupt pause on our activity.

“However, we have bounced back in full force during the summer months, with many of our members reporting a total sell out.

“We now want to continue to build on this momentum and strengthen our offering with increased members.

“We want to hear from businesses that offer visitors something a little different or that really showcase its own sense of place in Snowdonia or North Wales.

Staycation boom sees Llandudno named one of the most booked destinations in the world
The seaside resort was the only UK destination to make the list

A North Wales town has been named as one of the top trending destinations for bookings in 2022.

The seaside town of Llandudno, in Conwy, has been dubbed one of the top spots to be on everyone’s bucket lists for the next year.

Booking.com listed the Welsh town as one of eight emerging destinations - alongside Atlanta in the USA, Melaka in Malaysia, and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

The booking platform’s annual Travel Predication research found that more than half of travellers are looking to make up on holidays lost because of Covid.

North Wales has experienced a huge boom in staycations since covid restrictions eased earlier this year - and Llandudno is one of the main attractions.

Certainly noticeable to me as a volunteer Visitor Services Steward in Bodnant that there are a lot of people who have never visited the garden before, many who have never visited north wales before - and some of those are from places in Cheshire!

THE new £5 million Penderyn Distillery in Llandudno has been named North Wales’s top attraction at the region’s tourism ‘Oscars’.

There might be a three-to-five year wait before its whisky, a sister to the popular range produced at the original Penderyn distillery, near Aberdare, can be sampled, but its visitor centre is already packing them in.

It received its accolade at the Go North Wales Tourism Awards, a glittering event at Venue Cymru in Llandudno sponsored by leading food distribution company, Harlech Foodservice, and hosted by journalist Sian Lloyd.

The occasion was also a 30th anniversary celebration for organiser North Wales Tourism which was founded in 1990 and now represents more than 1,500 members across the region.

The Llandudno distillery is housed in the Grade II listed Old Board School in the town’s Lloyd Street and only opened in May.

A delighted manager, Dafydd Pesic-Smith, said: “It is going very well and it’s great to be in such a brilliant town.

Wales has been named among the top 10 most in-demand destinations to book a staycation for next summer.

Internation travel regulations have eased, with the UK Government removing 11 countries from the red list and axing hotel quarantines earlier this week.

These uncertainties have led travel experts to predict another staycation boom on its way in 2022.

Parkdean looked at 2021 staycation data to share their predictions for 2022.
Their report last year found that Cornwall and Devon were the most sought after destinations. While Cornwall has remained in the stop shop, Devon has dropped to number eight.

It has lost out to areas including Wales, the Lake District and Yorkshire.

Wales is the fifth most in-demand staycation spot for summer 2022 with a 51% increase in searches for holidays to this destination next year. For those hoping to spend their holidays in Wales, you won’t be disappointed with the stunning landscapes and wide variety of activities to get stuck into.

Snowdon beats Northern Lights and Grand Canyon in list of world's most eye-catching natural wonders
The popular tourist destination joined Yosemite and Niagra Falls in the top 15

Travel experts Kuoni have revealed which destinations around the world grab people's attention the most - and North Wales has made the list.

To disseminate which global natural wonder is officially the most beautiful, the luxury travel company ran a study that used eye-tracking technology to discover which natural landmarks the human eye is drawn to the most.

The study used a unique way to gather the data.
Participants were asked to look at a series of images of 50 of the world’s most famous natural landmarks and their eye movements were tracked using AI technology, data on which images drew the eye for the longest was then analysed.

Whilst the study revealed that Peyto Lake in Canada is the world's most eye-catching destination, the UK fared well with two natural wonders making it into the top 10 with the Jurassic Coast in Devon and our very own Snowdon, at No 7.

More discussions on the Tourist Tax......... ?

Welsh government to consult on tourism tax that would see visitors pay towards local services
Local visitor levy would apply to those staying overnight and would help maintain clean beaches, parks and pavements

A consultation on a tourism tax to help councils plan for visitors is set to be launched.

The Welsh Government said the research would start this autumn into proposals for a "local visitor levy".

Funds from the levy would go towards everything from keeping beaches clean to laying new footpaths.

Wales' tourism industry was worth more than £5bn annually in 2019.

And the Welsh Government insists a tourism tax would raise revenue for local authorities enabling them to manage the services and infrastructure which makes tourism a success.

Rebecca Evans, Minister for Finance and Local Government, said a levy would enable destinations in Wales to be enjoyed for generations to come.

Wales as a global tourist destination: Aberconwy MP seeks residents’ contributions

THE UK Parliament’s Welsh Affairs Committee has launched an inquiry which seeks to explore the current position of the tourism sector in Wales and the steps the UK Government can take to help promote the nation to the world.

Contributions to the inquiry, all of which will be considered, can be submitted online at www.committees.parliament.uk/call-for-evidence/707.

Among the issues to be considered are attracting international visitors to Wales, digital and transport connectivity, taxation measures to support the tourism sector and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic through the UK Government’s Tourism Recovery Plan.

Although the Welsh Government is responsible for developing and promoting Wales’ tourism sector the UK Government oversees areas that have a significant impact on tourism in Wales.

These issues include pan-UK connectivity, border control and Air Passenger Duty.

A MAJOR international campaign has been launched to attract high-spending overseas visitors to North Wales after the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

Among the aims of the multi-lingual drive by North Wales Tourism is to ensure that travellers from abroad can enjoy a warm Welsh welcome and information in their own languages.

Among the countries being targeted are European nations like Germany, Spain and France along with visitors from Japan, China and India.

As part of the campaign, North Wales Tourism is going to be building on existing ties with Japan that were forged though the twinning of Conwy and Himeji castles in 2019.
