Wales named by LA Times as one of top destinations for 2020 - and this is why.

The Los Angeles Times is the latest publication to sing Wales' praises, naming the country as one of its "10 great destinations to consider in 2020".

The other day I posted a link to the Manchester Evening News, this morning I get an update from the paper, including the piece below, which I thought was an excellent advert for NW, especially covering an area very likely to visit the region.

The exciting new things to see and do in Wales in 2020

Two positive articles in two days.................

A major tourism campaign to promote North Wales as the Adventure Capital of Europe has been boosted by news that five top attractions are planning to invest £30 million and create 500 new jobs over the next five years.

The famous five - Adventure Parc Snowdonia, GreenWood Family Park, Llechwedd, RibRide and Zip World – have joined forces with North Wales Tourism supported by the Welsh Government’s tourism team, Visit Wales, to launch the new drive.

The aim of the £165,000 campaign is to increase visitor numbers to North Wales and boost the tourism economy - which is already worth £3.2bn in the region - by an extra two per cent, equivalent to £64 million.

The following were mentioned in detail.

All good news for the area.

And

Gwinllan is well worth a visit and they are very good people too. They gave The Friends of Happy Valley & Haulfre Gardens a lot of advice and practical help with our Community Vineyard Project in Haulfre Gardens.
They have great wine to taste and to purchase.

80 million followers, nearly as many as the Three Towns Forum, still not to be sneezed at.  (wrong timing ?)

Ellen DeGeneres plans to visit UK after coronavirus lockdown - thanks to viral Llandudno goats
The US talk show host has praised the Llandudno goats - which have gone viral - to her 80 million Twitter followers

Ellen DeGeneres has revealed her plan to visit North Wales as soon as the lockdown in the US is lifted.

The 62-year-old, who has hosted her own talk show since 2003, made the admission on her official Twitter account after she found out about goats roaming around Llandudno.

The Great Orme goats, which have gone viral, were caught wandering the empty streets of the Conwy town earlier this week by Andrew Stuart.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIiv7y4J_Sk

The Reach videographer posted videos on social media showing the animals running freely along empty roads in the seaside resort.

Sharing one of the videos with her 80 million followers, Ellen tweeted: "This is the first place I’m visiting after this."

Snowdonia tipped for post-lockdown tourism boom
If these findings are anything to go by, a lot of people are headed here post-Covid-19.

Snowdonia was just pipped by the Scottish Highlands as being the most desirable place to visit post coronavirus crisis.

The news will bound to bring some much needed cheer to tourism operators in the region, who are all badly suffering since the lockdown was announced last month.

The area is the most-searched-for destination for a UK bucket list holiday when the lockdown is eventually lifted, according to new research.

Snowdonia beat the next three most popular spots - Yorkshire Dales, Cornwall, and the Lake District.

Yesterdays article above, plus this positive piece on the future of our hotels is encouraging.

The hotels shut or in trouble in North Wales as industry looks to life after coronavirus
What industry leaders say could be the state of the hospitality sector after closures struck the region

"But despite the coranvirus impact, there is optimism the hotel sector will bounce back in North Wales and possibly boom after restrictions are lifted.

With holidays abroad and possible quarantine measures either side of the break putting off many travellers, a stay-cation inside the UK seems a far more attractive option.

And as lockdown restrictions are gradually eased, hotels are preparing to welcome a public hungry for a holiday - but possibly in a different form."

"When the lockdown eases, the travel market is going to be very focused on staycation and Llandudno is well-placed to take advantage of that trend," Mr Jones said.

“I have every confidence that this wonderful resort will bounce back and buyers will be found for the hotels that have closed, enabling Llandudno to once again become a jewel in the crown of the tourism industry in North Wales.”

Head of hotel brokerage at Christie and Co, specialist business property adviser Jeremy Jones, believes hotels are well placed to bounce back and cater for the UK "independent traveller", with cottages, apartments and self-catering also likely to become more prevalent in the post-lockdown world.

Hand-in-hand with this will come a move away from breaks such as coaches filled with elderly people for getaways, he believes."
