St David's Hospice - Latest News - Jan, Feb & March 2013

28th March A group of firemen from the Llandudno fire station are entering a team into the St David’s Hospice Dragon Boat race. The team of fire fighters have entered the event in memory of Alan Browne, former Watch Manager at Llandudno Fire station who was cared for at the Hospice. The event is taking place on Sunday 12th May at 10am- 4pm at the Marine Lake, Rhyl. The day will see teams of 12- 20 people racing 40 foot long Hong Kong Dragon Boats down the lake to be crowned champions at the end of the day. There will also be other activities such as bouncy castles, fun fair and other stalls so it will be an absolutely fun packed day for all the family. • Tree of Lights Book 2012 is now available. It can be found in the Chapel at St David’s Hospice and can be viewed anytime between Monday and Friday, 9am – 5pm.
• St David’s Hospice are currently looking for volunteer shop assistants in the Conwy, Llandudno and Rhos on Sea shops. The position will include; greeting and serving customers in a welcoming manner, assisting in stock management, manning the till and processing sales, displaying items on the shop floor and replenish stock. • Would you like to set up or get involved with a Community Fundraising Support Group to help raise money for St David’s Hospice?

• St David’s Hospice has 4 Simple Minds concert tickets left! The concert will be held at Venue Cymru on 4th April 2013. All tickets are standing only. Tickets were kindly donated by Julie Bassett. £25 (RRP £37.50). Please contact Agnes (01492) 873664.
Orme View Care Home, Orme view road Llandudno will be holding a Spring Fair & Coffee morning on 6th April at 11:30am – 1:00pm in aid of St David’s Hospice.
There will be cakes /coffee, Bric a Brac, book stall and a raffle. If anyone can help with donations of Bric a Brac /plants or raffle prizes please call in to the hospice and ask for Agnes.
• 60’s, 70’s and Motown charity disco will be on at the Langtry’s, Grand Hotel, Llandudno on Saturday 20th April 8pm until late. Hosted by DJ Dave Hanson. Tickets £5 each available from: the main reception at St David’s Hospice or telephone (01492) 873664.
• There is going to be an Auction of Promises at the Conwy Pirate Weekend on the 11th/12th May in aid of St David's Hospice. We are currently looking for anyone who can offer a service that can be put up for auction. If you can help then please contact Kim Barr on 01492 879058 or e-mail k.barr@stdavidshospice.org.uk
• Will you take the plunge at Penrhyn Quarry, Bethesda for St David’s Hospice? The Zip wire challenge takes place at the new Zip World Snowdonia on Sunday 18th May. You will be strapped into a safety harness and leapt 700ft above the mountain lake at 75mph and fly down 1750m, the longest Zip Wire in Europe! For an information pack call 01492 873665
• Black Tie Barbecue in aid of St David's Hospice at Caer Rhun Hall on the 22nd June. Tickets are to be bought in blocks of 10 at £40.00 per head and are available to buy at the Hospice. Tickets selling fast call 01492 873665 to secure a table.

• Saturday 18th May, Enjoy an evening of sacred and emotive music, Concert is being organised by Norman Glasgow at Loreto Hall (next to St David’s Hospice) at 7pm, £5.00 per ticket available from the fundraising department.
• Saturday 13th July, Hospice Hoedown at Marl Farm, Llandudno Junction. Tickets are £22 per person. Please call 01492 873665 to purchase your tickets.
• Saturday 27th July, Summer Fete in the grounds of St David’s Hospice
• Sunday 28th July, Duck Race at Conwy River Festival- Buy a duck for £1 and watch them ‘race’ from Conwy Harbour. Entertainment and stalls on the whole day for all the family.
• Sunday 4th August, Dawn Walk the 6th ladies only walk from Conwy to Llandudno, starting at first light.
• Saturday 21st September, Skydiving event at Tilstock (near Whitchurch) Airfield. 10 places available!

A big thank you goes to Marcus Williams, General Manager from the Marine Hotel, Llandudno.
Marcus held a raffle and also sold Teddy Bears and raised a whopping £1248.74.
The Marine Hotel has also been supporting the Hospice Bunny Run by donating the Easter eggs for everyone who took part and was there on the day as our mascot.
A huge thank you also goes to Lisa Donnelly – Party fun 4 Wales, who supported the event with face painting and supplied the bunny costume.

• A new Hospice shop will be opening on the High St in Conwy on Monday 25th March at 10am by the Mayor of Conwy. St David’s Hospice is currently looking for volunteers to help at the shop. • A Dragon Boat Festival is a unique event to be held at The Marine Lake, Rhyl in aid of St David’s Hospice. We hope you will join in the fun by entering a team in the Festival on Sunday 12th May. This fantastic day will see teams of 12 to 20 people racing 40 foot long Hong Kong Dragon Boats down Marine Lake in Rhyl to be crowned champions at the end of the day. Professionally run by Dragon Boat Events, it is your chance to compete in one of Britain’s most unique water sport activities, where the emphasis throughout the day is on challenge, team building, fundraising and of course…FUN!
