I'm surprised it's still being used.

Thanks! That might even pique my interest sufficiently to pop into one of them. Brings back memories just looking at the list.

Heating still on going btw.  Electricians came today, not Monday.  It works but they have taken the CH zone valve out, locking it open and disconnecting the wiring. As far as I can see that means the small radiators in porch and bathroom I don't want to fit their rad valves to will also be on with any HW demand.  Find it hard to believe standard S plan is impossible with the 2 new kits they fitted.  A round of enquiries I could do without now started...

Oh and the hall wall mounting plan for the Evo panel has now gone. They've left the hall rad valve set to use the Evo Controller sensor (and I've not managed to re bind it to "remote").  Latest is to keep the Evo panel in the kitchen or at least charge it where its table top stand is now situated. Can't stay there as sooner or later there will be a spill from the kettle or something. But wherever the Evo panel is placed, the hall will use that location as its room temperature...

I hope things take a turn for the better, sooner rather than later.

Cheers. It's particularly annoying as that side (on Y Plan) was OK before.  But everything has moved (nicely - all except boiler in one cupboard and the new control panel and components made sense). I'd be half tempted to look at the wiring myself but I've backed off some things DIY attempts.  Some like crawling around roospace are down to more physical limitations (lower spine and an ulcerous sore in tat area) but wit specific reverence to electrics,, it's not that I couldn't follow an S Plan wiring diagram with care and planning (not an electronic person but a couple of Pic/Atmel plays mixed wit a bit of programming involved more wires plus I got the previous heating controls in and working), it's that I've started to worry increasingly over regs and what happens if something went wrong.  That, plus with some things, I'm at a stage where I want to leave alone to the experts.  On a sort of grrr with this and that at the moment....

Yes - that is the problem if we repair stuff ourselves.  I do all my own electrics, but decided to leave the installation of a new Breaker board to the proper guy.

You have to have a Certificate issued by a qualified person, for any work you have carry out squigglev2, otherwise your Insurance will be in their right not to pay out, if anything should go wrong.

And on the other hand, I guess there can be times when you need to DIY. We use a particular Z Wave dimmer in a couple of rooms.  In one case, manual calibration was needed (incorrect calibration can result in light flicker, light not turning off fully or in worse cases, the protection circuity in the device tripping).  I'd doubt that even pairing Z Wave devices were in the scope of the local electricians, let alone fiddling around with the Z Wave parameters in HA programs. I could be wrong but I'd guess I'd be looking for some HA specialist, probably Norwich based for that.

Which leads me to a conversation mum had with the plumber on Monday.  I believe he commented that a lot of tradesmen, particularly older ones, were struggling with today's rate of change and smart devices, etc. and that time out to go on courses was expensive...

I can imagine. It's certainly not cheap being a self-employed plumber.

Hmm.  We decided to accept things as they are as wanted it all over and done with.  I couldn’t sleep last night and got round to a bit of my own research.  The strange behaviour after the electricians first attempt seems to be down to wrong programming/misunderstandings – see https://theevohomeshop.co.uk/content/11-evo-help and the bit about BDR91s

It is possible to set up the components we had installed as S Plan but apparently that looses some “boiler tweaks”. On balance, I think what they did is better even though I need 2 more Evo radiator valves.  There is even another way that S plan could have been achieved by adding another wireless relay. That would permit the “boiler tweaks” and allow the rads without the Evo valves to come on just with CH.  We settle for what we have but so much for “can’t be done”.

In my searches I came across a new concern. I’m pretty sure they simply swapped out the combined  HW thermostat and thermal cutout module (which I have on my desk) in the unvented cylinder for the Honeywell probe. This reads to me as something you mustn’t do and seems in breach of some G3 regs.  I feel I ought to query this with the plumber when he returns for his final round on Tuesday but we don’t want more disruptions in the house...

I love that song, given me a chuckle just thinking about it.  Thanks

Just flicked through a couple more F&S of the few I know.  A Song of Patriotic Prejudice is perhaps interesting in terms of today.  In the intro it runs something like (not an accurate quote but)

"There'll always be an England but that's  not saying much.  There'll always be a North Pole too unless some dangerous clown doesn't go and melt it"
