Try downloading,,,, Microsoft Essentials,,,,, it's free and I find it to be pretty good and there's no sales pitches with it.

Hi Fester.
Your virus diverted you to the wrong site & the program you downloaded & ran was not the one in the link.
Uninstall the program you have installed from the diverted link.
You will probably also find that it will also divert you if you try to download Security essentials.
(self preservation) :rage:

Use the link I gave you on a different computer & download the program onto a flash drive, then install it onto your pc from the flash drive. The name of the program is MBAM (MalwareBytes AntiMalware)

Alternatively Boot up your pc in safe mode, to do this: As soon as you turn your pc on start pressing the f8 key on your keyboard.
When the menu shows, choose safe mode with networking.
When the pc has started, log on using your normal account.
Dont worry about the size/look of the icons pictures etc.
Follow the instructions in my last post making sure the download is MBAM.
Reboot the pc. & run mbam again.
- - - - This may look a bit complicated, but as you do it you will see that it is pretty self explanatory & easy.

Yes Mr Yorkie..... I did that this evening, and did it via Google instead of Firefox, where I believe the problem originated.
It download and ran just fine.  It identified 2 'threats' called ADWARE.
Seeing as it is Ads that are plaguing me, this seemed like it was the solution.
I deleted the 2 'threats', and rebooted my PC.   Sadly the Ads virus is still there in full vigour.

I will now attempt the 'Safe' mode approach, suggested by Rob.
Thanks for your efforts Guys!  $thanx$

Rob, attempted it... but did not work, but will try again. I may have done something wrong you see.  Plus I did not uninstall the Microsoft Essentials, (which threw adverts at me as soon as I logged on)

Should I download MBAM during safe mode, and also RUN it during safe mode?
Or do I download it in SAFE made,  but run it after the re-boot in normal mode?

Interesting update to my PC virus.

After uninstalling all the other anti-virus software, I placed it into SAFE mode, then once again ran MBAM.
It found 300 plus problems,,and I deleted them.
By accident, I ran it again, and after half an hour it found another 81 problems.  I deleted them too.

When I re-booted, there were ads still popping up all over any Google search results.  (Forum included)
But, when I tried Firefox, all the bugs had gone!
So, I see that as a real result as I use Firefox mainly anyway.

Cheers Rob, Yorkie, Dave, and all...

Fester.
If you have run MBAM in normal mode, then do the following to reset Internet explorer.

Open Internet Explorer.
On the Tools menu, select Internet options. If you don't see the Tools menu, press Alt.
In the Internet Options window, click the Advanced tab.
Click Reset.
In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.

Select the Delete personal settings check box to remove browsing history, search providers, Accelerators, home pages, Tracking Protection, and ActiveX Filtering data.
When Internet Explorer finishes applying the default settings, click Close, and then click OK.
Exit Internet Explorer.
Run Ccleaner.

Now start Internet Explorer & you should find that all the search re-directs & popups have gone.

Fester, another option is to contact someone you trust, who is also a computer geek, and use the remote access facility to connect you to your trusted friend who can clear the problems for you.   It is great just to sit back and watch the cursor moving all over the screen, clicking on all the bits and pieces you would never dream of clicking yourself, and seeing the problems disappear one by one.
My Son is the geek I use and it seems like magic that he can take control of my PC from Milton Keynes!
Eventually you learn the tricks and can manage to DIY.   ZXZ

Remote control software doesnt always work with virus's. They tend to block the connection.
I am a pc technician & sometimes work remotely. I use Teamviewer or Logmein.
If Fester was online during the daytime (excluding weekends) then I could do this for him. $good$

Thanks Guys,
I may well take you up on that offer one day next week. (Best to have the job done properly I suppose)
For the moment though, I am just grateful to have Firefox up and running without any pop ups or apparent virus signs.
It was a long haul, but I learned a lot in the process.
I'll keep you posted.

You seem to be getting a lot of good advice Fester, so hopefully to add to the above try down loading a free copy of SpyBot 2.1

Saw this and thought of you Fester........

Thanks for the thought Hollins.
Funnily enough, I was actually in a Motorhead tribute band in my late teens, maybe up to age 21.
We got very few gigs, because we were terrible.   A lot of fun though.

It would be a dream come true, but to be honest I am not sure what they are looking for.  Motorhead replacement seeing as Lemmy is unwell?
If so, nobody would buy it,  and there are a couple of well established Motorhead trubute bands going at the moment.

Anyway, I'm not good enough..... but curiosity tweaked nevertheless.
