PHOTO: Brothers Adam and David Turner from Deganwy have taken part in a hardcore 12 mile obstacle course and raised £1,624.75 in memory of their mother Melanie, who passed away at St David’s Hospice. The ‘Tough Mudder’ course is designed by British Special Forces to test the all-around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie of the participants.
Adam said “It was a huge pleasure to raise money for a charity so close to mine and my brother’s heart. The wonderful care that the hospice gave my mother in her final days was a great comfort to us all and we could never thank them enough.”

•   Saturday 21st July - St David’s Hospice Summer Fete, 1pm – 4pm in the grounds of St David’s Hospice. Beulah Brass band will be entertaining the crowds and there will be plenty for the whole family including lots of lovely stalls to browse, children's games and of course food to eat with our BBQ and café. Entry is £1 for adults and children 50p.
The following items would be gratefully received for the Summer Fete – Good quality toys and household items, bottles, gift sets, jewellery, raffle and tombola prizes - all of which will be sold during the fete at the Hospice, to raise much needed funds towards the running costs of £1.6 million.

•   Good luck to Geoff Phipps and Ian Smith who are taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge this weekend. They are walking in memory of Jim Bissell who was cared for by the Hospice in his final days. www.justgiving.com/ianandgeoff

•   Saturday 21st July – Motown & Disco Night with Dave Hanson & John Ivor at the Links Hotel, Llandudno. Starts: 8pm ‘til late   Free Entry - BBQ with donations to St David’s Hospice.

•   St David’s Hospice is currently looking for people to help as a Volunteer Inpatients Assistant. You will help care for inpatients, serving refreshments and undertaking non nursing duties as requested, working alongside a trained member of staff. Minimum age 18. •   Dawn Walk for St David’s Hospice – Sunday19th August 2012 is a ladies only sponsored walk from Conwy to Llandudno (return). Starting at first light, the walk follows to the beautiful route along the Conwy Estuary. Places are limited and closing dates for registration form is Friday 3rd August. •   Come and join in the Moverz ‘n’ Shakerz Zumbathon in aid of St David’s Hospice on Sunday 23rd September. Starts 10am on the bandstand, Llandudno Prom. For further info: 07958 730182.

•   The building developments at St David’s Hospice are progressing well with the first phase of the scheme now complete. Due to the changes in the layout access to the Inpatient dept. will now be via the side entrance (sign posted).

•   Please donate you old mobile phone St David’s Hospice. Post it free of charge to: Freepost Recyclewise, St David’s Hospice. Or drop it in to any of our charity shops.

•   St David’s Hospice Summer Fete - This Saturday (21st) 1pm – 4pm in the grounds of St David’s Hospice, Abbey Rd Llandudno. The Fete is open to all, and there will be something for everyone, including gift items, cakes, bric-a-brac, plants, toys, handmade items, jewellery, and books. There will be activities for children, as well as plenty of refreshments including a BBQ. Donations for the stalls gratefully received. Please bring them to the hospice in office hours.

•   Only two weeks left to sign up for the St David’s Hospice Dawn Walk. The walk on the 19th August is open to women only (under 16s must be accompanied by an adult – no walkers under 12) and is graded easy/moderate (9 miles on flat). The entry fee is £15 per walker which includes a dawn walk T-shirt; medal; bottled water and bacon butty. Each entrant will also be expected to raise as much sponsorship as they can. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. The closing date for registration is Friday August 3rd. •   St David’s Hospice is currently looking for volunteer van drivers to help the hospice shops. Main task involves arranging collection off stock to and from the shops across the area and from the Distribution Centre in Builder Street, Llandudno. Minimum age 25. •   Take part in St David’s Hospice Come Dine at Mine fundraising idea. Hold a dinner party and ask guests to donate towards the charity. We can provide you with coupons with money off your food bill and a pack including information and templates for. Call Wendy on (01492) 873665 for details.

•   Recycle your old mobile phone and donate to St David’s Hospice. It’s quick and easy to recycle your old mobile phone, and it won’t cost you a penny. Simply hand in your handset to one of our charity shops across Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey or visit the hospice reception desk between the hours of 9am – 5pm. Alternatively, post your old mobile phone in a sealed envelope to FREEPOST RECYCLEWISE ST DAVID’S HOSPICE. That’s all you need to put on the envelope to reach our recycling company.

•   The deadline for the Dawn Walk registration is next Friday, 3rd August. The ladies only sponsored walk takes place on Sunday 19th August and follows the beautiful the estuary path from Conwy to Llandudno. Entry fee is £15 which can be paid by card over the phone by calling the fundraising team on 01492 873665.

•   It’s the year of the dragon, so what better way to celebrate than to take part in the North Wales Dragon Boat Festival on Sunday 9 September! Teams wanted for the event which is taking place at The Marine Lake, Rhyl. For further information contact Pam Sharp on 01492 873674.

•   This year's annual Duck Race takes place at 5pm on Saturday 25th August as part of the Conwy River Festival. The plastic ducks will race to the finish line, with the "owner" of the winning duck claiming a £100 first prize. Duck numbers can be bought for £1 in advance from the hospice reception, in Abbey Rd, Llandudno.

•   SP Lamps Electrical Suppliers are holding a raffle for St David’s Hospice of electrical goods and tools worth over £600. Draw will take place on 3rd August. Tickets (£5 each) on sale at SP electrics and at the hospice reception.

•   St David’s Hospice is currently looking for volunteers to help in Café Dewi. Volunteers will carry out all duties relating to the smooth running of Café Dewi. Including; Making drinks and snacks for visitors, keeping Café Dewi clean and tidy and providing a warm welcome to visitors to Café Dewi. For further details call Kim on 01492 879058 ex 263.

•   Calling all Zumba fans! A charity Moverz ‘n’ Shakerz Zumbathon is on Sunday 23rd September starts 10am at the bandstand on Llandudno Promenade. •   Leaving the Hospice a legacy (a gift in your Will) helps ensure that we will be here in the future for those who need us. By making a gift to the Hospice in your Will, you are supporting us in the future even if it is difficult to do so at present. These donations make a huge difference and help us plan for the Hospice’s future. As we receive around 20% of our clinical running costs in this way, it means that provision of care for one in five of our patients is dependent on legacies. The annual Dawn Walk, raising much needed funds for St David’s Hospice is just around the corner. The women only walk is now in its fifth year and takes place on the dawn of Sunday, August 19, it follows the coastal path from Conwy to St David’s on West Shore, Llandudno and back – nine miles in total. To take part you must pre-register using the Dawn Walk Registration form and pay an entry fee of £15. If you would like to register 01492 873665 or go to www.stdavidshospice.org.uk.

•   Grab your bucket and spade for the Imperial Hotel’s sandcastle competition on Tuesday 14th August - join the fun on the north shore beach, Llandudno and create a castle that rivals Conwy! •   Club 147, Llandudno are holding two charity band nights in aid of St David’s Hospice. August 22nd is the ‘Groovy revolution - Ultimate party band’ night and 24th August is Ronstadt Generations – folk music straight from the USA. Performances start at 9pm.

•   St David’s Hospice is currently recruiting volunteers to help in Café Dewi based at the hospice in Abbey Rd, Llandudno. Volunteers are required on alternate Tuesdays and also for ad-hoc relief work to cover holidays and sickness.  All duties are relating to the smooth running of Café Dewi. Including; Making drinks and snacks for visitors, keeping Café Dewi clean and tidy and providing a warm welcome to visitors to Café Dewi. No experience needed, in house training given. •   Go quackers for the St David’s Hospice Duck Race! Saturday 25th August, Conwy Quay. First prize £100. Race will start approx. 5pm depending on tides. Buy your winning duck number in advance from St David’s Hospice. 01492 873665
