Well, I always score high on an autism test (as on here in the past!) but I've never had any strange desires like this chap!

My dogs did the same!   :D

It's not really that hard Ian.   I rather think that any right thinking person would CONDEMN!

Take a poll,  I think my assertion would be quite safe.

Perhaps, but would that make it right? Mental illness is unique in its ability to engender howls of self-righteous outrage from many, yet if someone had a similar physical disability it's unlikely they'd be pilloried in quite the same way.

I see it somewhat differently.

Mental illness makes it very difficult to reason with the sufferer, and people who have no sense of reason can be dangerous.
When they overstep the mark into causing anxiety or threat to others, then they must be prevented, or punished... as they cannot be cured.  That is what happened with the guy in the article, he caused real distress to others.

Is paedophilia a mental illness?   If so it is a glaring example of what I just said.   It needs to be excised or punished, and steps taken to be removed from society.

Indeed.  The inability to follow logical thought and reason is a criteria of mental illness.  And some conditions can indeed be dangerous.

But by the main criteria of mental illness, which you established, how can they know where the 'mark' is, to overstep it?

Prevented, yes.  But I'm curious as to how you would justify punishment for an illness. Even murderers found to be insane are not imprisoned, although they are removed from society, as they ought to be. Perhaps people who drink too much - or drink at all - should be denied NHS care and possibly locked up? Or those who eat too much? And how d'you know they 'cannot be cured'?

No, we only know what the reporter wrote, and that may have been embellished. Not uncommon in the news business.

Mental Health has long been the Cinderella of the health services, yet the ramifications of these conditions are enormous, damaging families, destroying careers and often leading to death as sufferers take their own lives. Not really a subject for off-hand humour.

It's always sad to see when a respected member of this Forum decides to go AWOL from here, and then revert to unsavoury activities.
Only today I saw this evidence of football vandalism in the toilets in the McDonalds at Connah's Quay, obviously perpetrated by one of our number.
The Medz,  I never even knew you were a Notts Forest fan.   &shake& &shake&

Being accused of football vandalism is one thing but being called a Notts Forest fan is just going too far. BWFC through and through.
Sorry about my lack of activity in the last year ior so. I've been keeping a watching brief over that period but I've had some issues with my parents that have involved me being in Wrexham on an almost daily basis and have restricted any sort of major input and response. The issues and the need to be away have now unfortunately concluded so I should once again be back to join in the conversations.

Excellent. I must try and get one of those mugs. 2004 losing in the league cup final to Middlesborough was the nearest we've been to it recently. Johnstones Paint Trophy might be best option on current form.
