The walls do have an odd finish to them, looks as though they are made of thousands of slivers of wood...

Yesterday we were invited out to lunch at Tre-Ysgawen Hall on Anglesey.
We had an excellent meal, three courses for £21, two for £15, all delicious and because we were the only diners we ate in a small dining room, not the huge conservatory and it felt like a special private dining experience.
The hall itself is in beautiful grounds and the bluebells are out now too.
The highlight for me though was being shown into a huge lounge with a fire for a cup of tea afterwards and seeing this wonderful brass slipper box by the fire. Now that is something I do approve of and would like one for myself!

Conwy's Liverpool Arms scraps expansion due to planning issues.
A spokesperson for Enterprise Inns said: “We can confirm that we put forward an initial planning submission for work to improve to the Liverpool Arms, Conwy.

"However, due to the complexities of the site and its listed status we subsequently decided to withdraw this application while we give further consideration to potential options."

Pity the same can't be said about the Carlton. They had an awful lot of damage done last night, benches smashed, hanging baskets trashed and many cars in the area had windows smashed.

What happened then?

Just flicking back through this thread and I read Hollins remarks about being pleased at having individual meals served to the correct person without having to be told. This reminded me of the exact opposite which I witnessed a few years ago in the early days of the Avon Conwy.
The place was a shambles. Everything was going wrong, no menues, queues for drinks whilst staff consulted computer screens etc etc. But the ultimate cock up for want of more refined words was to come.
There was a large family birthday party at a table close to the bar.all excited youngsters. There was another family group towards the back of the restaurant, more hidden away. All of a sudden the door leading to the kitchens burst open and out came four or five clowns carrying the birthday cake with candles and singing and throwing balloons around. Went straight past the group of excited youngsters and off to the quiet party in the corner, who were staring in amazement quote "we haven't ordered any birthday cakes." So, oh dear, about turn, second rendition of happy birthday to you to the correct table, the birthday girl by now being close to tears.

Mike, that's a bit like the funeral of a guy (a very young guy) I used to work with.
After the funeral we went back to a hotel with a large function room for solemn drinks and a bite to eat.
About 15 mins later the double doors burst open and in flooded a New Orleans style marching band, playing 'when the saints come marching in'
It was only after about 2 mins of this that the close family enquired who had booked this bizarre 'tribute', you see none of us knew the deceased to be a fan of jazz or anything?
It transpired that the marching band was indeed booked, but for a wedding, exactly one year in the future.   Red faces all round, but it soon thawed out, because young Mr Hansen would have seen the funny side of this.

I drove up the Orme today and then around the Marine Drive and was looking forward to a nice latte in the cafe by the lighthouse but it was closed.   The place was empty and it looked like there was some work going on inside.
When I arrived there, there was a land train packed with people outside the cafe and behind that was the old tour bus.  I noticed that the land train cost £4.00 for the tour which is a good price really.

They're laying a new floor in the cafe, Hugo, but they also ran out of water yesterday, following the dry spell.

Dylan's opens Anglesey super-kitchen to support expansion
Restaurant chain Dylan’s has opened its purpose built production kitchen on Anglesey to support its sites and drive the growth of its retail products.
The giant kitchen will see staff cooking up fresh bread, prepared seafood and sauces which will then be delivered each morning to the kitchens at their Menai Bridge and Criccieth restaurants.
They say the Llangefni site will further improve the quality and consistency at the restaurants and now gives them the green light to expand further with a new location in Conwy county.

“It gives us the green light for the third restaurant in Conwy and we will step up efforts to find our third location."

Maybe the Pier Pavilion redevelopment would be suitable home for them?

Wetherspoons interested in Conwy Civic Hall site - sparking concerns from other pub landlords
Pub chain JD Wetherspoon has confirmed it is looking at Conwy Civic Hall and the board will decide whether to press ahead with an attempt to buy the site.

The site is owned by Conwy council and the local authority says it wants to work with a developer to bring forward proposals to regenerate the Civic Hall, which closed in 2014.

Pub group Wetherspoons says it sent a representative to look at the site and are interested in coming to Conwy.
It has sparked concerns with other pub landlords over the threat to local independent drinking places and also groups who want to take on the site for the local community.
A Wetherspoons spokesman said: "We have many pubs in North Wales and we are always looking at new sites.
"We sent a representative to look at the site in Conwy and we have been made aware that it is up for sale.

Z** What they really mean is 'we won't be able to get away with charging half as much now"

£4.50 for a bottle of Guinness in the bank in Conwy - same bottle in Wetherspoons for less than £2
