The Dinorben Arms in Bodfari is set to reopen:

I saw that in the paper too, it's going to need a lot of money spending on it as the site is almost derelict now.

It wasn't looking too good when I last saw it.

That place has a 5 star food hygiene rating which seems unbelievable     :o

It's also No119  out of 144  restaurants  in the best places to eat on trip advisor.    I wouldn't like to see No 120 and the others then     &shake&

Me neither Hugo !

Just read the Trip Advisor reviews, why don't people report such dreadful situations to the appropriate people, not just rattle on on there ?
Apparently the restaurant is a franchise owned by Compass. They want shooting !!!

It would seem that the ratings are perhaps more of a box ticking exercise than anything else, with the corporate caterers being able to afford expensive recording systems?

It's management complacency, if the paperwork is correct and up to date, that's often all they care about. Anyone can tick a box, not everyone is able to use their initiative and see what needs doing. I always remember a local employer telling her staff   "Never walk back to the kitchen without taking something with you", I often  watch cafe and restaurant staff serving customers  and then returning empty handed  to the kitchen past tables that need clearing. I've often been in a busy restaurant and had to ask for the table to be cleared. On the other hand I can see how employees lack concern when they are dictated to from afar, feel they have to jump through hoops whilst being paid peanuts. That boss would roll her sleeves up and muck in at busy times and the staff always seemed happy and hard working.

Now that I will not tolerate..................in either direction. I have had people expecting to be served whilst on the phone, or carrying on a conversation with someone else. Both are rude and ill mannered.

But what can you do?

The other day in One Stop West Shore went like this.

assistant chatting to her colleague, pauses briefly to look at me

'Could I have ten pounds on this please?' holds out electricity card

Without a word - takes card - continues chatting to colleague - puts transaction through and plonks card and receipt on the till!  :o

B2R,  I'm in there most days sending out parcels.
Trust me when I say that your service on this occasion was mercifully quick!
