They do look like a good asset for the area, but a bit disappointing that they could not find a Welsh design and builder for log cabins in the Conwy valley of all places, nine wooden lodges – and one “super lodge” would have been a good pay day for a local company.

... there is also a big supply of good quality pine, spruce and redwood not more than a mile from that location, just waiting to be cleared up.

A TEA house and restaurant in Llandudno has announced it will be closing next month following 10 years in the town.

Characters, on Llewelyn Avenue, will no longer be open from March 5, it was confirmed yesterday (February 24).

It has been run by husband and wife, Brett and Annie Sinclair.

A post from Annie, written on Characters’ Facebook page, read: “I would like to thank all our loyal customers over the past 10 years for all your support.

“Unfortunately, Characters will be closing its doors from March 5.

“Anybody with outstanding vouchers will be fully reimbursed or alternatively, if you would like to come and use them and come to Characters one last time before we close, you will be able to redeem them until March 5.

I enjoyed a delicious meal of Scampi and Chips at the Loaf in Gloddaeth Street Llandudno today.     $good$
It was well worth the trouble of finding a place to park in the town due to the road works that are going on
The cafe is closed next week due to the fact that the place is expanding into the building next door.

DEALS worth more than £500,000 were clinched at a two-day trade expo organised by a top Gwynedd food distribution company.

Bumper crowds attended the Harlech Foodservice Food and Drink Expo which made a triumphant return after being cancelled last year because of COVID-19.

About 2,000 customers attended the high profile event at Venue Cymru in Llandudno.

The expo is one of the highlights of the catering calendar for food and drink producers and their trade customers across tourism, restaurants, pubs and cafes in North Wales, the North West and Midlands.

North Wales restaurant firm Johnny Dough’s is set to open a new site in a popular seaside town. The chain already has four sites in the region.

Now, owner Morgan Austin has taken over the former Natwest bank site in Rhos on Sea and will bring the brand to the town after research shows the area is the second most searched in the UK on Rightmove. The popular pizza brand is set to open its fourth site next week in Penmaenmawr, with the Rhos-on-Sea site being its fifth and will be projected to open for July 2022.

Speaking to North Wales Live, Mr Austin said: “There is nothing like this with a wood fired oven in Rhos-on-Sea, so we won’t be taking trade from anyone and hopefully we will actually bring more people into the town. We will bring an increase to the night time economy and give locals and tourists more choice.

update on above story..........

A TEA house and restaurant in Llandudno has announced it is to return, just three weeks after it looked to have closed its doors for the final time following 10 years of business.

Characters, on Llewelyn Avenue, had seemingly shut for good after March 5, but is now due to re-open, once the premises have been given “some well-deserved TLC with a slightly new look”.

On Monday (March 21), a post on Characters’ Facebook page read: “After a great deal of thought and many family meetings, we have decided that Characters will remain in the family and be passed down to the next generation.

“It was incredibly hard and emotional to start clearing Characters out after all these years and all the wonderful memories it holds for our customers and for our family.

“So, (we) have decided we are going to re-open Characters and give the place some well-deserved TLC with a slightly new look, but still very much the quirky Characters that you all know and love.

“Opening date to follow soon. We hope to see you all very soon.”              ref pioneer

A pub in the Conwy Valley brought back to its "former glories" in recent years has closed suddenly. Y Bedol bar and bistro, in Tal Y Bont, has had its ups and downs in recent years.

But owners Steve and Marion Hesketh - who took over in 2016 - have put money and passion into revitalising the local in a venture that has proved "overwhelmingly successful". It has won a TripAdvisor certificate of excellence and a CAMRA best newcomer award.

Last month North Wales Live reported it had gone on the market with estate agent Dafydd Hardy for £435,000. The couple said they had decided to "call time" and hand the baton over to new owners.

Now the pub has closed. A message on their Facebook page said it was "closed until further notice". Worried customers have replied asking about the owners and the pub but no more details have been provided although they have said "everyone is fine".

A Llandudno nightclub has been sold to a former business rival in the town, following a competitive bidding battle. In an announcement on Facebook, Broadway Boulevard revealed they are now under new ownership and will join the group behind Club One47.

The One47 group took over the business on Friday, April 1. They have promised to make changes to revive the nightlife of North Wales, bringing back some of the town's old favourites and giving people a reason to travel into the area for their "big night out".

North Wales' first bubble tea store opens in Llandudno shopping centre
BubbleNinja, in the Victoria Shopping Centre, will be the first store of its type in North Wales

A taste of Taiwan is coming to a popular North Wales shopping centre. BubbleNinja is opening inside the Victoria Shopping centre, Llandudno, in a long-vacant unit formerly occupied by a family run off-licence.

It will be a first of its kind for North Wales, and will join a line up of popular coffee shops in the town, including Costa Coffee and Café Nero. But BubbleNinja will offer a taste from the east, described as a combination of a drink and dessert, and claims to stand out from the crowd.

The brand has already gained a strong social media presence with over 2000 likes on their page within two weeks of announcing their arrival into the town. The shop will open on Sunday, April 10 and is offering two for one on all drinks for the day.

Bubble tea is a tea-based drink that originated in Taiwan in the early 1980s. It is commonly served in clear cups and consists of tea accompanied by chewy tapioca balls, also known as "boba" or "pearls".

A LLANDUDNO restaurant was among the winners at a national annual awards evening celebrating Welsh food businesses earlier this week.

Indulge Restaurant, based on Madoc Street, was crowned outstanding restaurant of the year at the Food Awards Wales 2022, which was held at the Cardiff City Stadium on April 11.

Initially based in Conwy Valley following its 2018 opening by Sonny Walker and wife Monika, the restaurant moved to Llandudno following the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and has not looked back since.

Beating eight other finalists, Sonny, Monica and three other staff members shared a table at the event with another North Wales-based winner: Green Island Bistro in Rhuddlan, who was named café/bistro of the year (north).

“I was at Signatures (Conwy restaurant) for nine years, and we won awards, and it was always a great feeling when it happened, but knowing that this one for us was pretty amazing.

“We won in the Welsh Hospitality Awards 2019 for best restaurant team - that was really nice, and then this one is like a step up from that.”

A NEW Costa Coffee store has opened in Mostyn Champney Retail Park.

The new store boasts a digital feel alongside freshly baked pastries and M&S food available to customers.

Visitors to the store will now be able to choose their favourite food or drinks from digital menu boards, and can even order in advance through Click & Collect on the Costa Coffee app.

This sounds good, anyone tried it ?................

Rousta’s Restaurant, 12 Mostyn Avenue, Craig y Don, Llandudno, LL30 1YS. Telephone: 01492 864056

Greek food at its hearty best just a few miles from home at Rousta’s Restaurant, a family owned venue which this month celebrates the milestone of its first full year of opening.

Don’t be misled by the unpretentious exterior - this is a busy eat-in restaurant, café and takeaway offering a mouthwatering mix of home cooked traditional and modern Greek dishes. The extensive menu features meat, vegetarian and vegan options, but no fish or seafood.

Many familiar favourites such as stifado, dolmades, souvlaki, tzatziki, gyros, houmous and baklava are available, but what sets it apart from other Greek establishments is that it also provides some lesser known options handed down through the Rousta family over many years that you are unlikely to see elsewhere. Greek tradition means diners should never leave feeling unsatisfied, so be warned - go there hungry as portions are really huge.
