Commercial Estate Agent, James Jackson, based in Madoc Street, has retired after many years operating in Llandudno:

He was a very courteous and pleasant gentleman, one of the old school.

James Jackson - a gentleman and the epitome of what you would expect an estate agent to be BUT rarely find.
Enjoy retirement James.

The work on Sainsburys is moving up a gear, it's only a couple of weeks before it will be open!

Diskos is to have its ugly modern shopfront removed and a reclaimed Victorian style one installed.

According to a sign in the window today Janet Finch-Saunders could be one of the contractors or residents!   Does that mean we will be paying for it?    Z**

Wasn't Frankie and Bennys going to go to the Iceland store site when they were thinking of closing it?

I was thinking that progress was going a bit slowly. They've brought in more contractors and have got them working all hours to try and get it finished.

Poundworld are trying to get on Mostyn Champneys and have a change of use,not sure who is leaving it does not say who or where the unit is,although it says recommend refusal.Obviously someone is trying to protect the high st but everything they have on offer is already available on the retail park so do we think jobs or leave the unit empty until a more suitable occupier comes along

I was reading on Oscar that someone had commented about the Llandudno Town Scheme and how it was a shame that something like that didn't still exist to help with the costs of replacement old sash or PVC windows.

It made me think what a real shame it is that that scheme ended, when you think about all the shops that benefited from it:

Cadwaladers got a lovely new shopfront and a hugely enhanced verandah
Clares restored and improved its verandah
The shop next to the Legion restored its verandah
The whole verandah on the Greeenery and its neighbours was restored
Clarkes replaced the awful British Gas Showroom shop front
That little terrace in Tudno St. (Bolton House?) were restored to a unified colour scheme
The Broadway Hotel was repainted and enhanced
Money was given to help repaint the side of Harmony House and restore the verandah.
Roden Villa and its neighbour were repainted and given a uniform look.
I also think a lot of the hotels obtained funds to reinstate railings.

I think I am correct in saying most of these were in large part funded by the scheme but forgive me if I am wrong.

It's a damn shame that that sort of thing has dried up as Colwyn Bay had its town scheme and now has the WAG money being spent on it and some of the (albeit still empty) shops look extremely nice, especially Penrhyn Road. The scheme must have ended circa 2005 I think. A number of hideous shop fronts and forlorn verandahs still exist, which could do with a makeover.

That's a good point, Ian48. Schemes like that are a great idea to enable property owners to restore those decorative but expensive bits of their property. Why did the scheme end - does anyone know?
