Little  sweet shop next to Cafe Nero now being worked on in St Georges Place.

Thats a shop I very nearly took over, about 2 years ago.
The rent seemed reasonable, but a damp problem (and odour) throughout needed to be dealt with by the Landlord before I would commit myself. But I was given no such assurances.

Now, I am hoping that whoever takes it on does well, and can take advantage of a possible revitalisation in that area, beginning with Caffe Nero, and the Manor kitchenware shop...  ££$

At the moment, we have HMV, Blacks Clothing, Milletts (same company as Blacks) all with a presence on Mostyn Street and all on the brink of financial collapse. In addition, the owner of Priceless Shoes went into administration on the 9th December.

And the main reason for all the failing businesses in Llandudno is because the "powers that be"  chose to put an "out of town" shopping centre right in the middle of the town's main (for 150 years) shopping area that used to survive very well under the capable hands of their individual owners!

I think we are looking at R.I.P. Mostyn Street!   All due to the greed of Councils and Landowners!  Nothing short of . . . . . . .

With regard to HMV, if anyone has any vouchers SPEND THEM NOW!

They are on the point of going bust as Dave says...
Due to chronic debt levels and falling sales, the entire HMV group is valued at a paltry £12million,  that is approximately one weeks takings for HMV group at this time of year.

This is a worse position than Zavvi was it when it folded about 3 years ago...
When that happened my daughter and I were left with vouchers which became instantly worthless.

Yorkie all those firms Dave R has just mentioned would still be going bust with or without Parc Llandudno, and the addition of Mostyn Champneys and Parc Llandudno have made Llandudno a good shopping base.Wether you like it or not without those two retail parks Bangor would be streets ahead and most people would be shopping there. With no help for the main shopping street whatsoever from LTC they are very much responsible for any decrease in footfall up Mostyn st.There are no xmas market stalls, no kiddies rides, no carol singers, no brass bands ,pathetic xmas lights so tell me why you would go out of your way to go up Mostyn st.It is about time the traders got of their backsides and pressured the TC to get of theirs and make improvements.Happy Xmas. >>>

It was only a matter of time, I suppose, since they opened the Mostyn Street shop.

La Senza, was a vibrant store in Parc Llandudno last year... before pulling out of the town, but now, many thousands of people accross the UK are in fear for their jobs once again as it enters administration.
See the story here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-16322404

This saddens me, as HMV, Millets, Blacks Leisure and Thorntons Chocolate are following close behind in the race to go out of business.
People need jobs, towns need employers... society needs both.
Scary stuff.

All a great shame, but we've never gone in these shops, La Senza I've never even heard of! It now seems that no one else goes in them either!
But yes we need the jobs etc, but I think the future will be  Asda etc and internet shopping.
