I cant believe that there isnt a business willing to pay market rent for a shop like that.

Might only be a rumour-- it is a very large space for a Charity Shop to fill unless they are going to sell furniture. Also the place smells awful, the Chemist was telling my OH before it closed that there are dire problems with the drains in the basement.

I believe it is quite prone to flooding too.  When we get those intense Summer rain storms, rainwater pours into the basement and cellar.  I have regularly seen fire engines being used to pump out the water.

Phillips Jewellers were also at the location at one time - the chemists were on the Upper Mostyn St side and of course Paynes' Corner House cafe/restaurant was above.

Retail Week magazine is saying that Llandudno and Evesham are not included in the deal.

Maybe they are just going to try and rent the premises independently, rather than as part of a deal to buy Alworths? Time will tell!

I see the former Going Places shop on Mostyn Street (between Peacocks and Gimberts) has scaffolding up yet again for repairs. It must be the third time in the last 6 months that the building has needed repairs - its been empty for over 3 years, so must be costing the Landlord (Boots Properties, I think) a fortune in maintenance costs and business rates, all without a penny in rent being received.

Agreed... but it will look very handy as a 'tangible asset' on Boots balance sheet.... as if its actually WORTH Circa £750,000 to anyone.  L0L

The murky world of company accounts, I suspect.

The former &Shus shop in Lloyd Street, Llandudno, is nearing completion as a new cafe for the Hambone.
