IT APPEARS preparatory actions are being done ahead of Marks and Spencer's move to Parc Llandudno.

Marks and Spencer, which is currently on Mostyn Street, is moving to the unit previously occupied by Debenhams.

Fencing has currently been put up all around the former store and at the back, along Mostyn Broadway.

On Thursday, September 23, the side door was open at the former unit - where the walkway is near to Costa Coffee - and at the front door was ajar. Banging could be heard as well as chattering from the workforce inside.

There was also a large trailer parked in front of the store.    cont  https://www.northwalespioneer.co.uk/news/19600902.unit-m-s-moving-parc-llandudno-prepped-ahead-move/

Panic buying: expert says more could be done to educate consumers about supply chains
Most people want to do the 'right thing' to maintain normal shopping behaviour, but a 'tiny minority' are damaging supply chains through panic

A survey for KlearNow last month found that 64 per cent of UK shoppers are resigned to missing out due to shortages and delays this Christmas, but 52 per cent said they refused to stockpile as a result of experiences during the pandemic.

Almost a third (31 per cent) said warnings of shortages and delays would not affect their Christmas shopping plans.

Some 57 per cent who stockpiled during lockdown said they regretted it and would not do it in future.

Of those who stockpiled for lockdown, 19 per cent said they had products left over after restrictions were lifted and seven per cent still have items now.

Interesting stats.
BUT.... those who stockpiled, or are stockpiling now, may well be glad they did when they see the difference in price they have to pay the next time they need any of those commodities.

I overheard a comment on a You Tube video, mention truck driver shortages in the US, a quick search found this....

A Trucking Crisis Has the U.S. Looking for More Drivers Abroad
2 August 2021, 15:00 BST

A shortage of truckers across the U.S. has become so severe that companies are trying to bring in drivers from abroad like seemingly never before.

For the first time in her 10-year trucking career, Holly McCormick has found herself coordinating with an agency in South Africa to source foreign drivers. A recruiter for Groendyke Transport Inc., McCormick has doubled her budget since the pandemic and is still having trouble finding candidates.

The U.S. has been grappling with a chronic lack of drivers for years, but the shortage reached crisis levels because of the pandemic, which simultaneously sent demand for shipped goods soaring while touching off a surge in early retirements. The consequences have been both dire and far-reaching: Filling stations have had gasoline outages. Airports have run short on jet fuel. A stainless-steel maker declared force majeure. And lumber prices hit a record, with some suppliers partly blaming delivery delays.

HGV driver shortage: Lack of examiners and test delays blamed

Waiting times and delayed paper work contributed to the "heart-breaking" situation, he said.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency said it was "tackling this issue through increasing testing".

The shortage of HGV drivers is due to a combination of Covid, Brexit and other factors, and has led to growing concerns about deliveries of food and fuel.

For Mr Flynn, the problem is there are not enough examiners available to book tests.

"There hasn't been an investment in examiners in the last few years and the pandemic hasn't helped either... but they could do a lot more than what they actually are doing," he said.

This saw it trial 'quiet hours' - which will now become permanent.

Consumer spending drops in Wales
« Reply #2243 on: October 27, 2021, 01:39:43 pm »
AS WALES continues to battle Covid-19 and a series of fuel, energy and distribution crises, households appear to be battening down the hatches in preparation for a post-pandemic Britain.

The Welsh Retail Consortium (WRC) has published recommendations for the Welsh Government’s 2022-23 Budget amid fear around the dramatic fall (17 per cent) in retail spending, compared to pre-pandemic figures.

Consumer confidence in Wales fell due to the pandemic, which lines up with new data from Quotezone.co.uk that shows a 7.4 per cent drop in the average value of contents insured over the last 12 months – falling from £44,966 to £41,653.

It’s likely that many households will be unpacking last year’s winter clothes instead of buying new, while others will be stalling on bigger purchases, like sofas or TVs until the dust settles.

Households in the UK are likely spending less in preparation for an economic downturn, and some will already be feeling the squeeze and making cutbacks as a direct result of furlough ending and the rising cost of household bills.

Asda bosses say they are introducing a permanent change that will affect all of its stores across the UK.

The retail giant has confirmed that between 2pm to 3pm every Monday and Thursday will now be a “quiet hour” to help all of its customers with hidden disabilities.

Following success at the store, the trial was extended to more branches across the UK.

Marks and Spencer release image showing what new Llandudno foodhall will look like
The retail giant is set to relocate from Mostyn Street to Parc Llandudno next spring

The chain trialled the larger format in 2019 and said this week that the Llandudno site will be a similar format to Paisley in Scotland.

The ambition is to draw more shoppers for 'weekly shops' as they compete with the likes of Tesco and Asda.
