'Options explored' for Llandudno Marks and Spencer site as new owners confirmed in report
Llandudno Retail Park Ltd will take on the freehold of the Mostyn Street store after the relocation

Edward Hiller, chief executive of Llandudno landowner Mostyn Estates, said he understood that they had received a few enquiries about the site and were now working through the potential options.

He said the fact the relocation would not take place for over a year meant it was still "early days" in securing a new future for the Mostyn Street site.

Peacocks stores back in business but only half will reopen

The collapsed fashion chain Peacocks has been bought out of administration, a move that includes transferring 2,000 jobs and 200 shops.

The number means the other half of the 400 trading at the time of the chain's collapse last November will not reopen as Peacocks.

It was previously owned by Edinburgh Woollen Mills (EWM).

The buyers are an international consortium, led by Peacocks' former chief operating officer, Steve Simpson.

He hopes to reopen the stores once non-essential retailers are allowed out of lockdown.

EWM Group is a private investment group controlled by the Day family, which is owed money by Peacocks and is supporting the consortium.

Peacocks owner on brink putting 21,000 jobs at risk
A statement from the administrators, FRP, said the collapse of the chain was due to "the devastating effects of the Covid-19 lockdown" on the business.

The Peacocks' management team hope that, with the support of their partners, suppliers and landlords, they will be able to reopen up to 200 stores.

The statement added the company hoped all 1,850 store staff, who are currently on furlough, will be able to return to work once stores reopen, along with more than 150 in head office and support.

"Today shoppers saw a notice up in the windows of Colwyn Bay's Iceland store. those who inquired were told they were not closing however one distressed shopper rang the main office and was informed that the store was closing as the lease was up!
One would think that the lease would just be renewed but it seems that is not the plan"    ? ?    ref inyourarea

Iceland confirms closure of CB store
It is based in the town’s Bay View Shopping Centre.
They said it would close at the end of May.

It will be the third major retailer to leave the shopping centre since the pandemic hit last March.
There are plans for the Department of Work and Pensions to locate a Covid overflow job centre at the former Argos unit.

The centre would be staffed by work coaches with the aim of helping people impacted by the pandemic find new jobs or training opportunities. An application has been submitted to Conwy council.        ref DP

Fashion chain Peacocks was bought out of administration this month - with thousands of jobs and 200 stores saved.

The four that have not made it through a pandemic hit last year are Bangor, Colwyn Bay, Denbigh and Rhyl - with around 50 staff affected.

The stores that will continue to trade are in Caernarfon, Llandudno, Flint, Holyhead, Holywell, Mold, Machynlleth(Co-op), and Pwllheli.

This could be a good fit for the area

A national retailer is taking on an empty unit on the Parc Llandudno shopping park.

Monsoon and Accessorize closed last year as the pandemic hit retail across the UK and chains reduced their store portfolios.
But now outdoor and leisure brand Regatta is taking on the unit and currently fitting out the site.

Jo Black, retail director at Regatta, said: “This really is an exciting time for the Regatta brand https://www.regatta.com/ to be opening in Llandudno - a fabulous market place.

“Our customers can expect to receive great service, great brands and see an incredible range suitable for all the family at affordable prices as we look to inspire more and more people to fall in love with the great outdoors.”

It would be the first Regatta store in North Wales.

2nd good news story today

TWO stores put at risk of closure during lockdown have celebrated reopening.

Edinburgh Woollen Mill, in Llandudno, and Craftcentre Cymru, in Conwy, were rescued following a management buyout by Purepay in January.

The Edinburgh Woollen Mill, on Mostyn Street, which has four staff members after four roles were lost since last April, reopened on April 12 and is seeing a steady return of customers.

M&S relocation in Llandudno will 'hit sales at Asda and Tesco' and impact town centre
Planning officers give verdict on the planned move by Marks and Spencer to Parc Llandudno

They need planning permission to increase food sales from the site as previously a covenant - in place since Asda moved from the location to a site over the road - restricted the amount of food that could be sold from units.

An application was put in with Conwy council's planning department and will be discussed by councillors next week - with other concerns raised about the potential impact on the town's high street.

M&S believe that the estimated uplift in turnover from food sales because of the move will be £5.7m

Councillor removed from planning meeting after warning over Llandudno's M&S relocation

A councillor was removed from a planning meeting after claiming relocating Marks and Spencer from Llandudno town centre could be the “last nail in the coffin” of his family’s business.

The retail giant wanted to increase the amount of space it could use to sell food on the ground floor of the recently vacated former Debenhams store on Parc Llandudno.

It comes after it announced it would take over the unit at Parc Llandudno and vacate its remaining store on Mostyn Street.

This is obviously affects, more than just the shop deliveries, but it raises the question why is there no British drivers , at a time when there is lots of jobs on offer ?

Shoppers face higher prices or possibly even empty shelves unless more is done to help end a shortage of lorry drivers, the industry has warned.

One leading Welsh haulier said lorry firms were facing a "perfect storm", caught between Brexit and Covid.

Owens Group in Carmarthenshire said it had lost 50 drivers who were EU citizens, as they did not meet the new criteria for skilled work visas.

The UK government said it was working with hauliers on the issue.
It said its new immigration system meant employers should invest in the domestic workforce.

But Ian Jarman from Llanelli-based Owens Group has called for more action to be taken.

"In the pandemic we were seen as an important industry keeping the deliveries going in the UK," he said.
"If it doesn't improve in the coming months there could possibly be delivery shortages."

No smoke without fire ? ?

VOLUNTARY redundancies are being offered to admin staff working at a furniture business.

DFS, who has a site in Llandudno, said this is due to there being "a big shift" in the way consumers shop.

A spokesperson for DFS said: "There has been a big shift in the way consumers shop over the past 18 months and, as a result, we are making some changes to our customer service team in order to better meet our customers' needs. This includes creating a Central Customer Support team that will be a more convenient one-stop shop offering great customer service, operating 12 hours a day, seven days a week.
