It's really important that an alternative to Boots is kept available. There are precious few independents, now, so Boots will get the lot.
There are more chemist shops around than you first realise Ian.... Asda,Rowlands,Lloyd's,Swettenham's as well as Superdrug and the 3 Boots outlets all within Llandudno.
I do agree though, competition is not only a very good thing, it's essential!

With the introduction of the minimum unit charge of 50p on alcohol my favourite Aldi German lager has jumped up from £2.99 for 4 cans to £4.60.
All is not lost, instead of booze runs to Calais it will now be Chester!

Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and other supermarkets given go ahead for 24 hour deliveries
Welsh Government takes action to relax planning rules to help fill empty shelves as shoppers stockpile.

Welsh Government is taking immediate action to allow delivery hours for supermarkets and other food retailers to be extended to help fill empty shelves during the coronavirus outbreak

Local Government minister Julie James has announced measures to relax planning conditions restricting night-time and early morning deliveries, allowing retailers to accept deliveries throughout the day and night where necessary.

The Welsh Government has instructed local planning authorities to temporarily relax the enforcement of these rules to provide the food industry with greater flexibility.

Sadly a sign of things to come.

The Looking Glass Ice Cream Parlour

**Guys, we haven't made this decision lightly. But in the interest of keeping our staff and customers safe, we are going to close until further notice. When all this craziness has passed, we will have THE biggest ice cream party EVER and you are all invited! But until then, stay safe and healthy. We love you all **

Up to 3,000 jobs are being axed after the owner of Carphone Warehouse revealed plans to shut all 531 of its mobile phone stores across the country.

Dixons Carphone - the group who own the company - said the shops – which make up about eight per cent of the entire group’s selling space – will shut on April 3 as it plans to sell mobile phones solely in its 305 combined Currys PC World stores and online across the UK.

Tesco has halted 24 hour opening at some North Wales supermarkets.
Shoppers have been told that stores in Llandudno Junction and Bangor were having their opening hours curtailed as panic buying due to the coronavirus outbreak was leaving shelves empty.

The move - which has seen the store in Llandudno Junction close at 10pm - is to give staff time to replenish stocks safely and efficiently amid huge stockpiling by customers.

I have just received an e-mail from Tesco about the revised opening hours of the Llandudno Junction Store and have posted it below

"Following the email you should’ve received earlier this week from our chief executive, Dave Lewis, we wanted to tell you more about the reduced opening hours at your local Tesco.
All Tesco stores are now closing at 10pm. Tesco Extra stores and Tesco Superstores in Scotland will be opening at 10am on Sundays. This will allow us to replenish stock and make sure that our stores are clean. On top of this, it will also give our hard-working in-store colleagues a chance to rest.
These changes are designed to simplify what we do so that we can provide more of what people need in a clean and safe environment.

Store opening hours

Today6am - 10pm
Tomorrow10am - 4pm
Monday 23rd March
Mon 23rd Mar
6am - 10pm
Tuesday 24 March
Tue 24th Mar
6am - 10pm
Wednesday 25 March
Wed 25th Mar
6am - 10pm
Thursday 26 March
Thu 26th Mar
6am - 10pm
Friday 27 March
Fri 27th Mar
6am - 10pm

We want to help everyone through these uncertain times, especially those who need extra help. So all our stores (except Express stores) will be prioritising the elderly and most vulnerable for one hour between 9am and 10am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Also, from this Sunday and every Sunday, all Tesco stores (except Express stores) will prioritise a browsing hour before checkouts open for NHS workers, giving them dedicated time to shop for their essentials.

Because now, more than ever, every little helps.

For more information on other Tesco stores near you, use our store locator.

If anyone cannot find the item they are looking for they should not turn their frustration out on the people working at the till as it is not their fault.     The person on the till should not be the subject of abuse, threats and intimidation by yobbish customers and in my opinion the management should put an immediate stop to having their staff attacked in this disgusting manner

Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and more urgently recalling products due to health concerns
Major supermarkets are recalling these products - which you may have already stockpiled in light of coronavirus.

According to the FSA, the affected products and date codes are as follows:
Branston Original Pickle (2.55kg) with best before dates of April and May 2021
Branston Original Pickle (310g) with best before dates of January and February 2022
Branston Original Sweet Pickle (280g) with the best before date of January 2022
Branston Original Sweet Pickle (360g) with best before dates of January and February 2022
Branston Original Sweet Pickle (520g) with best before dates of January and February 2022
Branston Small Chunk (2.55kg) with the best before date of May 2021
Branston Small Chunk (520g) with best before dates of February and March 2022
Branston Small Chunk (360g) with the best before date of February 2022
Branston Smooth Pickle (370g) with best before dates of January and February 2022
Branston Squeezy Smooth Pickle (355g) with the best before date of January 2022

These products have been sold at retailers including Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Iceland.

Miami Burger is recalling two of its burgers because of undeclared allergens.
The products may contain milk which is not mentioned on the label, and therefore poses a health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to such.

The recall includes Classic Miami Burgers (2x100g) - with affected batches having the code 2019211 and the best before date of 30 January 2021.

Also involved in the recall is the True Veg Burgers (2x110g) which have the batch code 2019193 and the best before date of 12 January 2021.

The affected products are sold at retailers such as Morrisons.            ref DP

Primark's 189 UK stores are expected to close Sunday and not reopen Monday, as demand drops due to social-distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.

Its parent company has temporarily closed shops in Europe and cancelled all future orders from suppliers.
Primark boss Paul Marchant said it faces "unprecedented, and frankly unimaginable times".

Other High Street retailers, such as John Lewis and Timpson, have already announced closures amid the pandemic.

A Primark spokesperson said that any staff affected by store closures would receive full pay for their contracted hours for 14 days.

Meanwhile the John Lewis department store chain will close all of its 50 shops temporarily from Monday for the first time in its 155-year history.   cont.   https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51995189

The supermarkets appear to have done quite a good job - with one notable exception.

Sainsbury's has made a shambles of their online ordering.  There's been a plethora of emails from 'Mike', their CEO, assuring us all that we will be well looked after, but the reality has been confusion, a complete mess of their ordering system, no online slots for some time and now with the new system no way of identifying the elderly, to whom they are supposed to be giving priority slots.

Compared with Asda, Tesco and Waitrose, they're a disaster.

I'm told that Aldi have introduced measures to improve customer safety but both limiting customer entries, controlling space in queues to get in and creating a one way direction with no u-turns  to go back for all those once inside.
Think about your shopping list before you go in and try and put it in the order that goods are stocked and that will make your visit a lot quicker, reduce queues and hopefully not miss anything needed too.
