Annoyingly, the vinyl I just ordered this morning was cheapest in HMV. I decided not to take the risk with them and got it from the next cheapest place which was in Germany! HMV was £25 - Germany £29 and Amazon £35

I've never seen the point of gift vouchers, the only ones worth having have a picture of the Queen on them!  :D

I totally agree.

Not too long ago, my sister-in-law gave me a gift voucher from Ticketmaster but because it took me over 12 months to use it I found it had already expired.

On the other hand, in 1997 I won a £100 gift voucher from Thomas Cook and I used it towards the cost of a holiday only last year in their shop in Mostyn Street.

No doubt, I would have got greater value for it 15 years ago but I accept that.

Not exactly a shop, but the HALIFAX is supposed to supply a service to its customers.   Today I came across my first experience of AGEISM, when solely due to my advancing years, they refused to deal with my enquiry as they had an age limit on that particular service.

I have been a customer of the Llandudno Branch for 25 years and of the Halifax itself for at least 50.  Never had any problems and always maintained healthy balances.

I note their ISA rate reduces at the end of March to a mere pittance so maybe it is about time I looked at moving my money to a more accommodating Bank.    :rage:

Without knowing the product in question it is difficult to comment but is it possibly a case of industry practice and all the other banks & building societies would have also refused your enquiry of their similar products.

The product is available at Branch level but NOT if one is over a certain age.   Essentially a short term loan that is fully secured, so absolutely no risk to the bank whatsoever.   Easily available from other places.  Goodby HALIFAX.

Probably think I won't live for another six months, but that would not affect the guarantee from the security.
Other than AGEISM it could only be stupidity of the person I saw, or a rather peculiar company policy.

Who's next?

I hope I'm wrong,  but I was right about Jessops and HMV.

Now, I fear for WH Smith,  and Waterstones.

W H Smith seems a pretty sound business, financially, whilst Waterstones is more at risk but has the very deep pockets of its Russian Billionaire owner to support them through any troubles.

I passed Baxters Photography in Vaughan Street yesterday and noticed it was now closed.

A sign says it has relocated but it does not say where to.

That studio must have been trading in Vaughan Street for as long as I can remember.

I've got thousands of HMV points.  Just tried to use them on line and the pages are closed "for essential maintenance".  Should have done it yesterday.  I did however purchase some good dvds in store for 25% off.

Somewhere in my files I have a pic of one of the occupants of our house taken in the late 1800s--- by Baxters

Speculation in the NWWN is that the Llandudno branch of HMV will remain open. I'm sceptical, personally, as I believe HMV will need to slim down from its current 239 stores to something nearer 40-50 in order to become a viable long term business.
