Oasis and Warehouse concessions in North Wales will close permanently after administrators said they were unable to find a buyer for the business.

Oasis had concessions in the Debenhams stores in Llandudno, Wrexham and Bangor while Warehouse also had a concession in the Wrexham Debenhams.

I for one will be remembering those who helped us, during lockdown.......

Marks & Spencer has launched its first home delivery service from than 140 UK stores.

Following a successful trial partnership with Deliveroo, the upmarket grocer is joining all other major supermarkets by launching deliveries to meet rising demand.

But customers in North Wales will not be able to access the service with the stores in Bangor, Llandudno, Prestatyn, Broughton and Wrexham not included in the rollout.

Trading standards have issued a warning over a type of super strong and potentially deadly alcohol being sold in Wales.

It was issued after concerns were raised over its safety and the labelling on the product.
Bottles of 'Spirytus' - a rectified spirit - have been seen on sale at outlets in Wales according to reports from Cornwall Live.

Each product contains an alcohol by volume (ABV) percentage of 95% - three times the strength of most spirits.
One 500ml bottle of the super-strength alcohol may contain up to the equivalent of 38 standard alcoholic drinks according to Cornwall Live.

The warning also raises concerns that the product has been labelled as being 'suitable as a disinfectant', something that trading standards says is incorrect.

The drink is thought to originate from Poland and is believed to be one of the strongest commercially available drinks in the world.

The label is not clearly marked in English but carries a warning never to consume the product neat.

Rob Nolan, Cornwall Council's Cabinet Member for Trading Standards, said: "An ABV of 95% is simply too strong an alcohol to be drunk neat and the risks are heightened if it does not have adequate labelling, for example, not having instructions for use in English.

"It is not acceptable for consumers to be offered food and drink products without clear labelling and instructions. And to then claim that the product is suitable for disinfectant is also grossly irresponsible."

She said: "Most spirit drinks are around 40% ABV, so this is far more than double the strength of regular spirits. We don't want people to misuse the product, thereby posing a risk to their health and their lives. Furthermore, to claim that the product is suitable as a disinfectant adds further confusion and risk to potential buyers." ref DP

Biggest-ever drop in retail footfall last month

Shopping destinations saw their largest ever decline in footfall last month as shoppers stayed at home amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to new figures.

Springboard’s latest monthly footfall monitor revealed a “decline of unprecedented magnitude” in April, as the number of people at retail sites plummeted by 80.1 per cent.

The slump was almost double the level of the downturn in March, which posted 41.3 per cent decline as the lockdown came into force part-way through the month.   ref Pioneer

UK's stay-at-home shopping habits equate to £12.9bn annual shift in spending

The "isolation economy" as people have remained at home has triggered a shift in consumer spending habits equating to £12.9 billion annually, analysis has found.

This change is largely due to UK adults' increased spending on four key "at home" sectors - groceries, alcohol, entertainment and hobbies and crafts - during the lockdown, according to the research from Legal & General and economics consultancy Cebr (Centre for Economics and Business Research).

Despite the £12.9 billion shift in where money is being spent, UK households have been spending less money generally, equating to a fall in expenditure of £215 billion per year, the research found.   ref  Pioneer

Debenhams makes decision on future of Llandudno store           ref DP
The retailer had been embroiled into a row with Welsh Government over business rates.

Last month it reached an agreement to reopen stores in Wrexham, Swansea and Newport - after agreements with local authorities - but warned that time was "running out" to save those in Llandudno and Cardiff.

Today though they told North Wales Live that Llandudno and Cardiff were now safe - saying councils had been "very supportive".

What now M&S ?

A shop I didn't realise was there until recently is "Toolstation" in Builder St. Currently they are only operating on "click and collect" but what a superb service. Browse their shop online, pay and within 5 minutes I was told I could collect. No waiting whatsoever when I got there.
In fairness B&Q also have a "click and collect" too and that was very efficient too the only difference was it took 26 hours before I was told it was ready to collect. They should be able to up that surely?

Brilliant firm. Grab a catalogue if you can, or look on-line. Free next day delivery if you spend £25.00. Handy if you need anything heavy . My OH has used them for years.
Mad, Bad and Dangerous to know.

With 'click and collect' it all depends on if the store physically has the items you require in stock. If they do you can usually get them on the same day. If they don't they will have to order them on a next day delivery basis. You will then be told when the item has been delivered to the store and is ready for collection.

Aldi wants to expand its store in Llandudno under a relocation plan on Mostyn Champneys.      ref DP

The German discounter believes the existing small unit on the shopping park is holding back sales in the seaside town.
But Mostyn Chamneys owner - the Hercules Unit Trust(HUT) - was keen to keep them on its retail park.

This has seen plans put forward for the retailer to take over the existing Argos site next door and merging the units into a larger Aldi store.

There is also a proposal for a coffee shop to be built at the corner of the expanded Aldi with the proposal for a drive-thru Costa on another part of the park to be dropped.

To support this scheme a new application is due to be submitted to relocate Argos to a new site on the park - potentially where the Costa was due to be sited.

Aldi will also enjoy a larger car park with McDonald's set to be demolished - and a replacement restaurant erected next to Iceland.

HUT had previously planned to build a new restaurant to replace the existing McDonald's but the already under pressure casual dining sector has collapsed with the coronavirus pandemic and that plan has been abandoned.

This frees up room for an expanded car park for Aldi.
The current Aldi store dates back to 1995 and is now described as "not fit for purpose".
They say the expansion would create an extra 10 roles with shop floor space going from 763sq m to 1315sq m.

DEBENHAMS is to re-open its Llandudno store on Tuesday, June 23.

After a successful first few days' trading in England, Debenhams is to re-open its eight stores in Wales as trading restrictions are eased.

As well as Llandudno, Bangor is also re-opening.  ref DP
