Does anyone know what happened to Gorst builders, I notice that they were dissolved in 1995, any other info?

There were a few Gorst Builders and I think Eldon Gorst and Son of Abergele were the original firm.  They built estates all over North Wales and I think they may have started the Penrhyn Beach Estate.  Barry Gorst built some of the Penrhyn Beach East bungalows because I was negotiating to buy a beachside plot from him C1979.
In 1985 I went to see two of the Gorst Brothers in Glan Conwy who were building an estate near the Church but I can't remember their names.
My first bungalow was in Towyn and Eldon Gorst was the builder and as my father knew Tony Gorst  we were able to get a discount for doing some of the work inside the property ourselves.
I never knew what happened to the firm though.

I believe they merged with Ashworth Bros to become Ashworth-Gorst in the 1980s(?) and then ceased trading at some point in the 1990s.

Eldon R Gorst & Son Ltd was taken over in 1971/2 by Whelmar Ltd and became Whelmar (North Wales) Ltd. It's office was in Abergele next to the Police station and Court Premises. The builders' strike was on in the latter part of 1972 and it held up our purchase of a bungalow in Rhuddlan from Whelmar much to our annoyance. It was a modest three bedroom detached bungalow with garage and cost £7,213 - the £13 was because we had 'veined' tiles in the bathroom instead of the standard white! Funny old world?

Thanks for all the info, I just wanted to make sure that any restrictive covenants are unlikely to be enforced, looking good at the moment!

ME. I think Whelmar was subsequently taken over by Christian Salvesson who had 'fingers in lots of pies' including shipping.

Yes, I'm fairly sure that's the one. I worked in a bank just along the road in Market Street between July 1972 to November 1976
