Talking of Steamers Trojan
I remember reading one of my dads book ages ago. I read the story of the Rothsay (castle) steamer. It left liverpool docks 1831 and ran aground by Puffin Island. Two fellas one old and one young found themselves clinging to the same plank of wood as the steamer sank. it soon became apparent that the plank would not support the pair of them, the old man wanted to let go to save the life of the young man, and the young man felt vice versa. They both let go of the plank at the same time. both thinking the other had died they were reunited on the beach at Puffin Island.
Now how heroic is that, I have to be honest people, I hope you don't ever end up on the opposite side of my sinking piece of plank, 'cos I'll tell you now, I will have a better excuse to live and I'll kick harder lol
