Not being critical, just curious, where else can they build with the current shortage of housing, particularly with the immigration problems we face ?? &shake&

Thank you both for your interest. I have heard of that happening before Hugo, but in this case a Tree report was taken in March by a consultant from Manchester (as if we don't have our own Tree Consultants here in Wales !)
Anyway the fight goes on and if anyone is reading this please, please sign our petition  $thanx$

Everyone is entitled to their opinion Quiggs and like you I am extremely worried and my hearts go out to the plight of these poor people, but we aren't talking rental properties here. They are Luxury houses, some 4 bedroom with paddocks, the few "Affordable" will be around £175,000. I can't see any young couples being able to afford those prices with the wages they pay in the area. May I suggest if you are curious to know the facts, you read the information we have on the above mentioned sites or go to Conwy Council Planning application 0/41960 and read the letters.
I don't know if you have been to this area recently but Anwyl are building another luxury Estate of 4/5 bedroom houses, just a few hundred metres from the proposed site and we are already finding the infrastructure of the Sychnant Pass Road is inadequate.
There are plenty of houses of all sizes and types for sale and for rent in the Conwy area at present, affordable included so there is no need with the circumstances we have to build more.

We have to remember that we are a planet with finite resources, our population needs to stop growing or it will eventually mean the end for all of us.

On a national level, the UK is already a very crowded place, we can't just keep on building more and more houses.

On a more local level, there are at least 25,000 empty homes in Wales already. Let's get every one of them back in use before considering building even one new house on a greenfield site.

And across the country there are hundreds of thousands of empty homes. Perhaps second home owners should be charged a second homes tax?

Yes, I definitely think so. Perhaps the Council Tax Rate for Second Homes should be 150% of the normal amount, with the excess being ploughed back into subsidising starter homes for local people?

You have hit the nail on the head there Ian & Dave.. Approx 22,000 privately owned homes in Wales have been left empty for more than 6 months, what a wasted resource ! In the past the council tax system allowed a discount on council tax for second homes, but it's now at the discretion of the local authorities. They can now charge up to 100%. The Welsh Government are encouraging the local authorities to invest the difference in increasing provision for local housing in their area. Plaid-led Gwynedd Council had proposed 200% at one stage. Certain second homes can in some cases have benefits to the local economy and tourism, but the fact is some are occupied for only part of the year. Holiday rentals in Conwy at the height of the season can cost between £500 and £1,000 per week. The owners could well afford more council tax, after all these properties are a business.

May be the exception to the rule but there was a brilliant busker in Conwy near Plas Mawr this afternoon.
Song a bunch of folk classics, even did a couple of Christy Moore  ZXZ
Llandudno still holds the record for worst busker EVER. With that youngster who looks like a reject from Sum41 and his awful wailings.

Many years ago there was an old lady who looked like a Gypsy and played an accordion outside of Woolworths in Rhyl.     Boy was she bad, we used to play " I'll name that tune" amongst ourselves.
I'll name that tune in 5 minutes we'd say and we never ever guessed what tune she was playing

Don't seem to have seen ( or heard ) him recently, but I tend to avoid town when it is busy.
