I didn't realise until yesterday that Conwy used to have an island called Yr Ynys.
Situated between Conwy and Junction. The chains of Telfords bridge are attached to the solid rock on the eastern side. In pic 1 you can see the woman painting a picture of Conwy from the island and there is quite clearly a sweeping pathway to the water.  I wonder if the steps photographed for an eatlier post have something to do with Yr Ynys.  On the google pic you can see the remains of the island on the left hand side of the flyover.  It could explain why the steps are completely different from the materials used for the Cob?

Found a few old paintings Angie. This one clearly shows an island out in the estuary.

Bridge over the river Gyffin. The building seems to be where Billingtons had their garage

Not sure about the date on this postcard.

The first trawler is the Manx Beauty.

I would say late 1940s/early 1950s?

Yes, that's what I would have said.

I was thinking about the trawler.....obviously it came from the Isle of Man. Was it more profitable for them in those days to off-load their catch at Conwy?

Having said that, Manx kippers were always a favorite delicacy. My Father and I always brought some home after a day excursion to Douglas from Llandudno pier.

Any truth in the rumours that Fat Face http://www.fatface.com/ are moving to Conwy? I heard that they are moving into the Celtic shop

The Celtic Shop has been for sale for a year or so. I think it was Fat Face who viewed a shop in Castle Street a couple of years ago and arrived on a cold and wet Winter morning with hardly a soul in sight. Needless to say, they didn't take the Lease back then.  ;D

I had the pleasure of working with Tony as Seaboard Inspector in the early 90's.  He joined the Council very shortly after myself.  He was great to work for, probably due to his background in the RN.  A true Officer and a Gentleman in my book.  May he always sail in calm waters.

Is it? I'd not seen it before. It's not on this thread, I don't think?   ???
