The smaller the council, the more it's usually beset with in-fighting, petty bickering and bullying.

Nautical Point Ltd Chester are about to put forward to CCBC a planning application to develop the Civic Hall Conwy. The ground floor will comprise market stalls & retail units, with tourism & residential accommodation on the floors above. As part of the scheme the developers will build new toilets on a site near to the development, in place of the older toilet blocks under the building on the quay. I'm really pleased to hear the toilets are going to be part of the application as they are an absolute disgrace & embarrassment to Conwy Town.

It's a very sad picture to see the Conwy High Street so empty but what's the answer?         As soon as the restrictions are lifted then you start to see the number of Coronavirus cases rising.
On TV tonight a survey of people obeying the latest Covid rules was put at just over 50% but I would have thought that it's much much less.      In fact I only know of two households that haven't broken one rule or another.

A CALL for a volunteer to mind Conwy’s public defibrillator has been launched following its theft ( by morons) from the town’s Quay.

The defibrillator was installed by the Community Heartbeat Trust in a classic red telephone kiosk on the Quay.

Martin Fagan, National Secretary of the Trust said: “Regrettably, only a matter of days after the installation, someone stole the defibrillator, and the site has remained empty since.

“We have been unable to find anyone who can regularly check the site, and report back to us via the WebNos governance system, so until we do, we are unable to replace the defibrillator.

“If anyone would like to volunteer to help us manage this site, and also if anyone wishes to make a donation towards the replacement defibrillator (we need to raise £1000), please do contact us at www/communityheartbeat.org.uk.”

The Community Heartbeat Trust is a national charity, working throughout the UK countries. Its aim is to support communities in providing defibrillator projects.     ref Pioneer

A TOWN clerk has resigned after a decision was made to exclude the public and press from a meeting.

The decision to hold a private session was made against the advice of Conwy Town Council clerk, Natasha Flint, as there was nothing on the agenda which constituted ‘confidential business’.

Mrs Flint, who is legally qualified joined the Town Council in 2018, has since tended her resignation to the authority.

She told the Pioneer: “The council has had a letter of resignation from me.

“Until this letter has been accepted by the full Council, I have no comment to make.”

The council’s civic committee went into a private session on Monday March 22, despite advice from the town clerk not to do this because there was nothing on the agenda which constituted confidential business.

It therefore should have remained a public meeting.

I am assuming this is Conwy town, and not the County....

CONWY is among the best destinations in the UK for a ‘babymoon’, according to research by a price comparison website.

comparethemarket.com surveyed 51 locations and considered factors such as restaurants, parks, museums and health care facilities per person living in the area to spend a babymoon – a vacation to celebrate pregnancy.

It found that Conwy was the second best destination, behind the City of London, and ranked the highest in the index for closeness to the beach and best place to go for beachside downtime. Conwy was also ranked second for healthcare facilities, giving parents-to-be peace of mind that medical help is available if needed.

THREE members of trouble-hit Conwy Town Council and its clerk have resigned.

The Authority has been the centre of controversy for some time with allegations and counter allegations, with two councillors being suspended for a month at the end of last year.

Two of the three councillors who resigned are Cllr Terry James, and Cllr Pat Hart, who are married.

The Pioneer reported last December how they had originally been accused of bullying and harassing members of the town council’s staff.

But an investigation by the Ombudsman for Wales found no evidence to support these allegations.

The third councillor to resign is Cllr Martin Craven.

In addition, the Conwy Town Council's clerk, Natasha Flint has resigned from her position.

The Mayor of Conwy, Cllr Emma Leighton-Jones said: “The circumstances surrounding the two resignations received are different but I admit it has been a difficult few months and have to respect the decisions these individuals have made.

IT IS HOPED a post office service can be resorted 'permanently' in Conwy town.        ref Pioneer

The Post Office, on Lancaster Square, closed at the end of January in 2020. This followed the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use.

The Conwy Tourist Information Centre stepped in to offer the Post Office a home and set up a 'pop up' service.
Now it is hoped the Post Office can move to Spar on 15 High Street.

A spokesperson for the Post Office said: "We are keen to restore a permanent service to this community as soon as possible so we have decided to go ahead with our plans.

"However, we welcome suggestions about specific aspects of the change, particularly regarding accessibility and anything we can do to make life easier for customers."

The Post Office want to install the service as early as Friday, June 18.

Conwy Post Office will have new opening hours, Monday to Sunday 7am – 11pm.

The spokesperson added: "This will offer 112 hours of Post Office service a week, making it much more convenient for customers to visit.

"A wide range of products and services would still be available."
Customers of main UK banks will be able to access accounts at new branch

Services will include bill payment, cash withdrawals and foreign currency, postage, home shopping collections and returns.

The public are invited to make comments about the relocated branch proposal. These can be emailed to comments@postoffice.co.uk or telephone 03452 66 01 15 or Textphone 03457 22 33 55.

The replacement temporary service, at Conwy Tourist Information Centre, will cease on Thursday, June 17 at 5pm.

WELSH rugby players have backed a bid for Conwy county to become the UK City of Culture.

Leigh Halfpenny, Jonathan Davies and coach Wayne Pivac were pictured by the River Conwy in support of Conwy County Borough Council’s (CCBC) bid for the prestigious cultural status in the 2025.

“Thanks to WRU players Jonathan Davies, Leigh Halfpenny and Head Coach Wayne Pivac for their support today as Conwy County Borough Council prepares to bid for UK City of Culture 2025,” a social media post by CCBC said.

This is the first time that clusters of towns can vie for the award, which is currently held by Coventry, as part of a plan to open it up to more parts of the UK.

Conwy is the “flagship” town in CCBC's expression of interest, while the TV and internet fame of Gwyrch Castle and Llandudno goats are hoped to sway the judges.

A planning application has gone in to CCBC for 3 apartments above the Alfredo Restaurant, Conwy. An entrance to the apartments will be created within the ground floor restaurant & a cycle rack is proposed on the side path, as there is no room for parking. So if you are going to be the proud new owner of one of these apartment it's either get a bus or get on your bike.

A WELSH whiskey giant has backed a bid for Conwy to become the next UK City of Culture.

Penderyn Distillery has become the commercial partner of Conwy County Borough Council (CBCC) in the early stages of its bid for the prestigious competition in 2025.

It hopes the panel of judges will be swayed by the county’s tourism and heritage links such as Gwyrch Castle, Conwy Castle and the Great Orme goats, with a “radical” cultural programme that is said to be community-based and “authentically Welsh”.

A COUNCIL has submitted its expression of interest to become UK City of Culture 2025 under the title Conwy 2025.

Conwy County Borough Council has made a formal submission and launched its online campaign https://conwy2025.co.uk/ for the prestigious competition, run by the UK Government Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) every four years.

Winning localities can experience a major boost in tourism from the UK and abroad, while the competition can also attract investment and businesses.

A council spokesperson said: "Conwy county is ambitious and dynamic. Constantly changing and evolving whilst still deeply connected to its communities, culture and heritage. A county full of talent, experience, opportunities and cultural awakenings.

"Conwy 2025, working with a cast of thousands, will co-produce a playful cultural programme with its communities, that celebrates Conwy county to the world stage. With a spirit of adventure connecting everyone who lives, works and visits, through spectacular landscapes, language, heritage and traditions.
