THE Original Conwy Pirate Festival is set to return on May 14 and 15, with a pirate ship set to attack the harbour and the castle.

The popular event is to return for the first time since 2019 due to restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic in the previous two years.

As well as a pirate invasion of Conwy, music, games and more are also planned, including a crabbing competition, barrel rolling and keg races, a performance from “The Old Time Sailors”, and walking the plank.

The Original Conwy Pirate Festival awash with visitors!

One of the biggest events in the Conwy calendar, and made a triumphant return to the medieval walled town with stalls, rides and contests proving popular with patrons.

The event was organised by the ‘Pirate Captain” Toby Tunstall from the Knight Shop, and Chair of the Conwy Chamber of Trade.

The quay was full of pirate enthusiasts who saw Conwy return to its pre-pandemic days, with pirate-themed games by Glipso Woodworking, a pirate treasure hunt around town organised by Cleave Court guest house, the Conwy mermaid and performances from Inferno fire.

It was a fun weekend and very busy, well done to the organisers.  $3towns$

I see Drew Pritchard shut his shop last week and now a sold sign has appeared in the window. I can understand why - he would have got a great price for it in the current market and with most sales going through the website, moving stock from the warehouse into the shop, then back to the warehouse for shipping probably made the shop seem a bit redundant at times. Wonder if he is moving away from the area? I think his shop was good for the town as was the TV show.

It is a pity that Drew Pritchard has closed his shop in Conwy. I think it must have brought some trade to the town, plus visitors to stay in the area. It was covered in the press:

https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/salvage-hunters-star-drew-pritchard-23998579

https://www.business-live.co.uk/retail-consumer/salvage-hunters-tv-star-closed-24005682

https://en.celebrity.tn/is-salvage-hunters-still-being-made/

He has said he is moving to "new pastures". I did read something about him going to Gloucestershire. In the Salvage Hunters he often talks of liking Somerset. I think Salvage Hunters did much to promote North Wales generally. It is a shame.

North Wales restaurant group Dylan’s will open a store at the former site of Drew Pritchard’s Antiques in Conwy - with plans for a restaurant on the upper floors in the future. The Salvage Hunters star revealed last week that the emporium on High Street had closed as he looked for “new pastures”.

Now it has been confirmed that the site has been snapped up by Dylan’s who plan to open their second Baked Goods General Store this summer. The first store in Menai Bridge was a lockdown success story and created eight full time jobs in its first year, proving an instant hit on the Anglesey high street.    refDP

IT is the end of an era for policing in Conwy.

After 162 years of being an operational police building, Conwy Police Station has closed its doors.

Located in Lancaster Square in Conwy, this iconic Grade 2 listed building was built in the 1860s and has been a police station ever since.

For more than a decade, the station has been occupied by Conwy Neighbourhood Policing Team, consisting of up to seven officers.

But, due to the size, age and work required on the building, the difficult decision has been made to sell the building and re-locate the team to Rose Hill Street.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team has re-located to the Mauriau Building, above the Tourist Information Centre on Rose Hill Street, just a few minutes’ walk down the road.   ref pioneer

CONWY?S 700-year-old Honey Fair will return to the town?s High Street on Tuesday, 13 September.

The event is to be held from 9am to 4pm, and will celebrate sweet nectar from across the region.

Conwy Beekeepers' Secretary and Fair organiser Peter McFadden said: ?The bees have worked hard this fine summer, making plenty of honey for themselves and some for us.

?All the stall space is booked now, with half of them selling honey.

?The Honey Fair is a unique privilege for the beekeepers and for the town.?

Beekeepers usually sell more than a tonne of honey by lunchtime.

With up to 60 stalls, including farmers? markets, set to showcase North Wales produce, the final preparations are in place for this Conwy classic.

PEOPLE flocked to the Conwy Honey Fair on Tuesday (September 13), as it returned to the town centre?s streets after a three-year break due to Covid-19.

The Honey Fair dates back more than 700 years, to the Royal Charter of King Edward I, who first conquered Wales.

Having endured a three-year pause due to the pandemic, the Fair returned bigger than ever with a record 30 honey stalls selling their produce, with several of these new beekeepers.
